I was not a SoCal kid, but NoCal. We had the near equivalent of KROQ in Live 105, which was a bit different (and in my opinion better based on the the Alex Bennett morning show). (I am ignoring KQAK for these purposes, which was even cooler 'til it went away) We had a similar video show (California Music Channel) with Steve Masters as occaisional guest, who was sorta the equivalent of Richard Blade. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMC-TV) Apparently it still exists...and still appears fairly eclectic (http://www.cmctv.com/californiamusicchannel/index.htm). There was another one too, but I don't remember it exactly. It was too close to after school that I had to rush home to see it and rarely made it. However, you can find artists you may know here: http://www.roqofthe80s.com/#. I still find myself looking for some of the bands (Janitor by Suburban Lawns), but most of it is familiar and comforting.OK, enough nostalgia for now.Tom----- Original Message - -----From: Valerie Nozick Date: Thursday, April 10, 2008 1:14 pmSubject: Re: 80sTo: ecto@smoe.org> Wow, all of these stories of seeking out good music in the 80s > has made me realize how spoiled I was. Vienna Teng is playing one UK show next month, 11 May, at London's Borderline, a club I like and where I've seen her perform previously. Alas, it's on a Sunday, which means not getting home until close to 2am (I don't live in London). Can I handle that and teach Monday morning -- classes I can't miss because the students I see that day have their final two AS exams later that week? She's on a double bill with Alex Wong. If not, don't. I took early retirement to put time into my watercolors. Years ago I did a portrait of Happy. I sent a few photos around. Maybe someone with one would post a JPG of it here. I am not sure if it should be published on any Ecto pages, as she now owns the portrait and I only own the photos. Bye, me KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! What's wrong with my back? My only exposure of them is their track on the "Excelsis Volume 2" christmas album, which is very lovely. I've always wanted to hear more from them, but their cds are hard to find since their label went kaput. They're not on i-tunes, emusic, cdbaby, ebay, etc.. I nearly paid $75 for their 3 albums, used from amazon.. but I checked http://www.projekt.com on a whim before placing my order, and they have all of their albums in stock! I don't know if it was a reissue? Or sometimes Projekt will "find" old cds and offer them for sale.. but I just saved myself a ton of $! What a great opportunity to order these extremely hard to find cds!! I figured a few ecto-folk might be interested! Siddal also has a page on the ectoguide if you want more info.. And while I was ordering, Projekt is also selling the new Melodyguild EP! Melodyguild features vocalist Suzanne Perry from Love Spirals Downwards.. looking forward to hearing that as well!!
