Really nice. Donna has a very cool quality to her voice and I like her songwriting. Per her MySpace bio: Donna has worked with some really interesting people as well such as Trevor Horn, David Torn and Tony Levin. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Jon Wesley Huff Sent: Thursday, April 03, 2008 10:24 PM To: Untitled Subject: Donna Lewis - In The Pink So, this just appeared out of nowhere on iTunes. Now, I was never a FAN persay, but I've always enjoyed what I've heard. I have to say though the new album really got my attention. Apparently a few tracks appeared on a 2002 release I'd never heard of, but it's all new to me! I really like the sound she has going on here. Might be worth a look for you Ecto folk. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Apr 2008 14:34:55 +0000 (GMT) From: gordodo@optonline.net Subject: a few new discs i am liking a lot Karine Polwart - Fairest Floo'er - Karine takes a step back from her own material putting together an album of classics...if you dig susan mckeown, check out karine... The new album is great - worth a look from all ecto-folk! After ten years, Donna Lewis creeps back to the music scene with a new release! Who knew?! I had given up all hope of her making music again.. Apparently she took time off to raise a family and such, and now she's back! In case you don't remember, Donna Lewis penned that overplayed song from 1996: "I Love You Always Forever". With whispery vocals and childlike rhyming - the song was a little taste of summer - light and airy and fun. The album that song came from, "Now In A Minute", is one of my favorite albums of the 90's. And while that one song was a huge hit, nothing else on the album found similar success. Her follow-up album, 1998's "Blue Planet", was a decent effort and certainly has its moments, but it lacks much of the charm of "Now In A Minute". After that album's release (and mainstream failure, I suppose), she pretty much disappeared. But suddenly, here she is with a fresh new album, "In the Pink"! I've been listening to it pretty much non-stop. It's fantastic. The songs are hard to describe. I'm not even sure what to compare it to. A lot of the music is a nice contrast to her voice - still wispy and delicate, but backed with some nice electronics and beats. The songs are more full and substantial. They don't feel like they'll just float away. The standout track right now is "Don't Ever" - it all comes together beautifully there.. the lyrics, her voice, the music. Really lovely. Check it out!
