The celebratory 'Honey of experience' and darker Garden of Eden song were wonderful. I felt so sad when they ended - it could be years before she records them :( I guess it's sensible that Noe's planning a full-time career teaching English, and the experience will feed her mind in different ways to music, but I selfishly want her to be a full-time musician. She's equal and above many who manage to support themselves this way. I wasn't so keen on her song for Dan. It expressed her deep sadness at his death and had lines about perhaps seeing him again in the eyes of a newborn baby. The words were more like an unadorned private letter to him than something transformed into art; I felt uncomfortable listening in, and she looked so sad. > But in fact, the show's relation to the > album was more of an "And how!" It wasn't the sort of live show where the > artist arranges everything differently to keep it from sounding just like > the recording; it was rather one where the album winds up sounding like a > pale reflection of what the music really could sound like. That's it exactly. It wasn't just more instruments and therefore a fuller sound; it was more intense, powerful and bright. I love the album but it hasn't got the variation in delicacy/roughness, beauty/ugliness, prettiness/rocking-out that her earlier ones do. It's like Noe has apprenticed herself to Beauty and shed darker things. I feel the beauty in her music more when it's in contrast. > On one song--I > wish I could remember which--Dean Sharp's heartbeat pounding on the bass > drum added an unexpected energy to an already vigorous line. I remember > thinking, "This is like the album, only more so." Third song, 'Prayer for beauty,' I thought just that - the drum and Todd's bass gave such a living heartbeat to the song, and by Noe's giant smile, she knew it. The celebration of beauty became ecstatic. Much of her music feels like worship, though with her smile it's happy, goofy, humble worship, not the grand Lisa Gerrard style.
