They're not bad songs, I guess, > but...they're not special to me in any way, like many other Happy songs > are. I remember being absolutely infatuated when I discovered Happy through RhodeSongs in 1994. And except for 'The Keep' (which I found a bit too fragmented, for lack of a better word) I've had the same kind of connection with every album released since 1994. I did order the sampler and the final album 'The keep' from Vickie - together with my Dutch fellow fans - and I've been slightly surprised, like Vickie was, with the reception this album got here. I agree that production-wise, 'Find me' is a lot more "simple" than 'Many worlds', but it's still an album that is hard to beat by any other artist these days. I prefer tracks like 'She won't go', 'Can't let go' and especially 'The treehouse', but there's not one flawed track on this disc to be found - even if personally I don't really like the title track, it seems too slow for me. So what does all this mean? I don't share the view - uttered by some - that you're not a real fan if you don't like this album. It becomes interesting when the next album (which I hope won't take so long to follow like 'Find me' did!) comes out. With Tori Amos and Black I've seen that some people who were rabid fans turned into persons saying 'Er, I'm not interested anymore'. For Tori it was her disastrous covers album and what followed (although some gave up earlier even) and for Black it was his 'hey I'm going to release a three disc demo album with just me and my guitar and a harmonica' period. (And I think there are more examples to be found). Personally I think Happy has stayed true to her own style, there's not something to pinpoint like in the two examples above. So I hope her next album will see a more enthusiastic reception. There is one thing that seems like an explanation: we waited nine years for 'Find me' since 'Many worlds'. With a gap like that, people expect a lot. Kate Bush was only received enthusiastically with 'Aerial' because after 12 years it was something of a monumental album (and a double disc set as well). To go on hiatus is one thing, but it raises expectations... and causes disappointment if you're not careful. As for me, I'm pretty happy with 'Find me'. I'm just frustrated that we may never get to see Happy live in Europe. :-( Kind regards, Marcel Rijs Marcel.rijs@kb.nl Webmaster www.kvce.nl ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2008 11:25:15 -0700 (PDT) From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: new jill tracy Veda Hille, Jill Tracy, Sarah Slean... what a great year for Ecto releases. As the person whose record company released the Jill Tracy CD, I am almost not believing it myself that the disc is actually for sale. It's been in progress for, uh, 3 years now? 4? Anyway, we are also going to be having a special presale of 100 autographed CDs starting sometime later this month or early next month. Everybody who buys one of the 100 CDs will be eligible to win a Jill Tracy doll! The disc will also be at CDBaby soon, and May 20 it will be available in stores everywhere, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic, etc. - --Sue ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #432 ***************************
