Well, I have an agree and a disagree there. I do really like "She Won't Go" as something of a "kicky rock song". (I might've expected the slower songs to stick with me more, but here it was the more aggressive songs.) But for me, the title track is...lacking. It feels so isolated, like there's no past and no future, and perhaps that's what Happy was going for, but I guess I needed more context, more character, to make the emotional connection to empathize with this person lost at sea. (It's funny. Kate didn't give tons of backstory to her character in The Ninth Wave, and what there was was given later in the sequence, but for some reason TNW works for me where FM doesn't. Perhaps because when I start listening now to TNW, I already know the context from repeated listenings?) > in the pre-release "Find Me sampler", i could say i liked *every* song (which i can't say about some/most of the previous albums, i literally press "skip" on some songs, and i won't say which those are). no song on the Find Me sampler gets the "skip" hit and even though the sampler was mixed/mastered a little hot (i can't tell exactly what "mastering" really is for CDs since there isn't the tradeoff of loudness vs. track width you get with vinyl), i liked some of the mixes better on the sampler than on the release CD. > I did acquire a copy of the sampler when it was released. That was the reason I didn't just purchase a copy of the finalized album from Vickie when it came out, instead waited a while and ordered from CDBaby. I never really got into the sampler. It didn't really, er, "call to me" as her previous albums did. (My early history with Happy albums: I purchase an album. I find it strange and off-putting, and I set it aside. But it works its way into my brain, and starts calling to me to give it another try. I do...and I set it aside again. But then it calls to me again...and you get the picture. Happy's music has never been a love at first listen thing for me. If it didn't grow, and grow big, on me, I'd never have gotten past my first Happy album, which was "Ecto".) So I wasn't sure if I could write a review of the final version that didn't seem...down. Finally, I decided to just do it, and I gave it a listen. And some songs did eventually grow on me. Others...well, others just didn't. They're not bad songs, I guess, but...they're not special to me in any way, like many other Happy songs are. - -- John Higdon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2008 03:00:03 -0400 (EDT) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************* Geoff Carre (no Email address) ********************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Geoff Carre Sat March 20 1954 Pisces John Stewart Sat March 21 1970 Aries Bob Brown Thu March 22 1951 Ham Valerie Nozick Thu March 25 1971 Aries Tom Proven Sat March 27 1971 Eat at Joe's Jennifer Albert Wed March 30 1966 Aries (w/Cancer rising!:) Warpaint Mon April 01 1991 Brilliant! How I've waited.. As the person whose record company released the Jill Tracy CD, I am almost not believing it myself that the disc is actually for sale. It's been in progress for, uh, 3 years now? 4? Anyway, we are also going to be having a special presale of 100 autographed CDs starting sometime later this month or early next month. Everybody who buys one of the 100 CDs will be eligible to win a Jill Tracy doll! The disc will also be at CDBaby soon, and May 20 it will be available in stores everywhere, Amazon, iTunes, eMusic, etc. - --Sue ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #431 ***************************
