The following page includes "Lungs" by Townes van Zandt, "Thunder Road" by Bruce Springsteen, and the other songs on the album you mention. Foo. i think last night's show in brooklyn was not a sell-out. but i don't think ms. bulat was playing either. i didn't go to either since i'm a doofus. woj n.p. wfmu ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 14:52:09 -0500 From: morayati@email.unc.edu Subject: "Find Me" as a first Happy album? The other day I was put on the spot to recommend a Happy Rhodes album. The question startled me for a moment. I finally decided on Warpaint, Many Worlds, and Find Me. Realistically, I figure Find Me is the one that's going to be bought. The recommendations on the Ectophiles' Guide are mostly pre-Find Me, so I was wondering how well it'd work as a first album. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 14:10:57 -0800 From: Damon Subject: melanie horsnell, emily loizeau, others just had to pop my head up to mention australian artist melanie horsnell's cd, `the adventures of...'. i found it randomly browsing cdbaby; it said "recommended if you like aimee mann, regina spektor, feist", who are all in my personal goddess list so i had a listen, then ordered. http://cdbaby.com/cd/melaniehorsnell there are samples of each song. the comparisons all seem vaguely apt to me - though *much* much more aimee mann and feist than regina. i really love her laid-back, melancholic folky sound, her themes, and her voice. the cd booklet really gives you a feel for her too. :) i also picked up agnes milewski's cd (which i really like, but somewhat less than the samples made me believe), the new two loons for tea (excellent), charlotte martin's _veins_ (haven't really listened yet) and rounded out my rachael sage collection with _ballads & burlesque_. another one i'm absolutely loving, that wasn't from cdbaby, is emily loizeau's _l'autre bout du monde_. it's got a lovely, vagely old-timey sensibility to it, sprinkled with just plain fun - excellent, eminently listenable stuff. check out the video on youtube for 'je suis jalouse'. :) thanks todd! - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < http://www.last.fm/user/kalaleq/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Feb 2008 17:57:19 -0500 From: "Richard Messum" Subject: Re: "Find Me" as a first Happy album? She's fantastic... I don't think we'll be seeing her perform in such tiny spaces much longer. Which is actually a good thing, I think. Her brain functions symphonically (singer-songwriter really isn't the right word), and I felt like the complexity of her work almost overwhelmed the tiny room.
