They're selling another batch Monday morning (probably between 6am-10am eastern, unhelpfully vague but hey they're still figuring it out :) It's remarkable to look at a list of 95 Throwing Muses songs, 95 Kristin Hersh songs, and then notice there are still wonderful songs not available (Hungry, Graffiti, The visit, Dizzy, plus the new ones left off by mistake). And then you think, aw, why does she dislike Hunkpapa so much?! Sure, confused-major-label production gloss, but that isn't the fault of the songs. Have you picked songs, Sarah, other people? What a weird exercise. Do you pick favorites, or a representative smattering, or all TM or KH for consistency, or all acoustic or electric, or a mixture of moods because there's only so much heads sliding across ice one can take, or ones you want to hear solo, or ones that meant heaps to you as a screwy teenager? This is where I realize Kristin's music has been part of my life for 20 years, more than half of my life. Bloody hell. She has made it richer. As she draws on her double-decker face with a rainbow of felt-tips, the tourists peer over the side, safe from the colorful natives. Thanks for recommending further listening to Sia (Leonora, Tim, Woj) - I'm enjoying the tracks I downloaded, a nice mixture but not mad mixture (in the St Vincent way). I was worried it'd be too smooth, sophisticated (read 'boring to me') cafe/hair salon music, but some lovely melodies and melancholy. 'I go to sleep' is pretty and 'Academia' skips cutely and then there's a glossy dreamy chorus that reminds me of something very specific that I can't identify, so I'll say 'Black Box Recorder.' Now and then she slurs her voice in a lazy rather than cool way - the chorus of 'Day too soon' begins with "I erm werning all my li(f)e, I ran away I ran away from gooooo." I don't dare look at the lyrics, since if 'gooooo' (also 'goourrrckgghg') is something like 'you' then I'll have to stop listening to the song. But one thing you didn't tell me, and you really should have taken this into account, you recommenders, is my iTunes song order - why didn't you warn me (WHY?) that after humming along to Sia, as I chopped mushrooms and asparagus, that across the room my computer would suddenly scream "Brutal aroourrrgherkcgghkk cruel erghghkkk" as an album by 'Sick of it all' started playing? How hard would it have been for you to have taken iTunes proximity into account? Particularly when I would be listening whilst using a knife. :) K. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Feb 2008 19:46:13 -0500 From: morayati@email.unc.edu Subject: Re: More unabashed brilliance from Kristin Hersh Yep, I heard about that. Not sure whether I'll be up though. Hopefully it's towards the end of that time slot. There were actually a lot more songs available than I expected. I mean, I knew Tanya's songs probably wouldn't be there, and I would be very surprised if she put, say, Dizzy down considering how much she hates it. I haven't picked songs, although I do have a few in mind. A lot of people on the forums seem to be choosing songs based on how they'd sound solo / whether they've been done live before. I'm at a relative disadvantage since I'm a latecomer and could be more familiar with her back catalogue... Quoting Karen Hester : > Thanks so much for posting this, Sarah.
