I hope US dates for 'Paradoxical Undressing' are scheduled soon. I loved her tour review from New Zealand - http://www.throwingmusic.com/blog/2007/11/tour-diary-part-12-new-zealand.html. There's a hilarious bit about a son - "At the airport on the way to Wellington, Bo is so jet-lagged, he's practically high. He lounges on the suitcase. "Mom, where are your tunes?" he asks. I've never heard him use this word before. I don't say tunes. "Did you forget to pack your tunes?" "What?" "Where are your tunes??" "They're in her head," Billy says. Bo looks up at Billy. "Did she forget to pack her head?" "Her head? What are you talking about?" Bo looks back down again and waves Billy off. "Aaah, go mate with a shark." Billy looks at me. "Did he just tell me to go fuck myself?" "Well, not exactly" > From: Gregory Bossert > Subject: Fwd: Kristin Hersh and CASH Music ... > Kristen really nailed it: "cover" art, beautifully presented lyrics, > and woo! the mix "stems", to which i am already doing awfully naughty > things. i gave her what i gave radiohead, just to make a point (the > point being: more please!) also, you know, the music is good. > really good. goosebumps good. damn, 4AD muses good. They're great songs, and arriving one-by-one they're more digestible than an album - I've gotten to know each one well, rather than focusing on the standout tracks. It's not all that different from the Works in Progress days, other than a remixable version and artwork for each song. From memory, the earlier WIP downloads weren't demos for new stuff but unreleased and live tracks, which I was more interested in. Be interesting to know how many people downloaded the compulsory subscription WIP music compared to the voluntary payment CASH music. I'm wondering what to pay, since despite the fun monthly aspect, I'm happy to wait for the album, so it's more money "to make a point" to use Greg's phrase (though not necessarily meaning), a patron/charity exchange rather than purchase. The further 'financial support' options on http://kristinhersh.cashmusic.org/subscription.php suggest patronage. As a business model CASH straddles nurturing fans (who want to give support, get extras like demos, participate in a community) and enticing new/casual listeners (it's free!). I'm sure the good will and promotional aspects of CASH will outweigh the people who don't feel a need to buy the album after cherry-picking their favorites. And if people can get music for free elsewhere (illegally), why not offer it surrounded by goodies and good will on an artist's own site.
