From Tribe to ... Guitar Hero and Rock Band?! http://www.boston.com/jobs/galleries/greg_lopiccolo/ Damn, I wish I'd seen this in time to participate in the chat. :( The transcript is here, for those interested ... some news about what the other Tribe members are up to is in there as well: http://www.boston.com/jobs/bighelp/2008/lopiccolo_transcript/ (Funny, I remember talking to him once about our similar collegiate paths ... we majored in the same thing and had the same favorite class, only a decade apart. :) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2008 03:00:03 -0500 (EST) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ****************** Chris Sampson (chris@neuron.uchc.edu) ****************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Chris Sampson Wed January 15 1964 Void where prohibited Denis G Parslow Fri January 17 1964 ...of the Saint Ross Alford Thu January 17 1957 Positive Nancy Whitney Mon January 19 1959 slippery when wet Sarah Noelle Pratt Ferguson Tue January 20 1970 Seanympf-Aquarius David Beery Tue January 20 1976 drum Terry Partis Sun January 22 1933 Rocker Steve Hughes Thu January 24 1963 Aquarius Sarah McLachlan Sun January 28 1968 Aquarius Ilka Heber Mon February 01 1965 Mermaid Bob Lovejoy Sun February 02 1947 Aquarius Diane Burke Sat February 02 1963 slow children Timothy S. I knew those two had gone off to work on music for games, but I never knew the details. yay! thanks for sharing this. I'm so glad these guys (some of them anyway), have had some success. They seriously deserve it. Tribe is still one of my favorite bands of all time. I loved both the music and the people, and I still listen to their music a LOT. a lot a lot a lot. seriously. heh. this is really a very exciting way to end the day. How am i supposed to go to sleep now?! my brain will be buzzing. :) - --jessica meredith wrote: > Hi, > > Just found this on boston.com: a pictorial article about Greg LoPiccolo, > known in ecto lore as the bassist for the late, lamented band Tribe > (*wistful sigh*). I found them on on various year-end lists and decided I should listen. Patrick Wolf - "The Magic Position" - don't know how I missed out on such a fantastic grade A eccentric. Must've been living under a rock. He gets a lot of Kate and Bowie comparisons because he's British and melodramatic. I love it. The National - "Boxer" - not *entirely* sure I get all of the album-of-the-year hype, but this is quite lovely. It gets a little bit samey in the middle, but the songs that poke through, like "Fake Empire" and "Ada" are immensely evocative. ~tim ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2008 10:34:43 -0600 From: "Jon Wesley Huff" Subject: Re: I've been listening to boys!! Speaking of "boys" I got a pretty cool one recently. The band is called Silver Seas. I guess they used to be call The Bees. http://beesmusic.com/site/ http://www.myspace.com/thesilverseas The album is called High Society and it's really cool. Sort of 60s-70s -ish jangly pop. Done well. I like it. :D I also am currently listening to/reviewing/enjoying: Kasey Anderson (The Reckoning): He sometimes sounds like Jakob Dylan (Wallflowers) http://www.kaseyanderson.com/ http://www.myspace.com/kaseyanderson and Jon McKeil (his is isn't out yet, I hope he has a real page by the time it's released). http://www.myspace.com/jonmckiel There, see I do sometimes listen to guys too!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jan 2008 15:50:34 -0800 From: Neile Graham Subject: Jorane Jorane's new one, vers a soi, is great. It's not as pop as The You and The Now, nor as difficult listening as 13mm and co. This is utterly wonderful and growing on me by the minute. Got it quickly through amazon.ca, but USPS delivery required a signature. Not available on Maple Music, alas, nor do I know if there's a U.S. release expected. - --Neile - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - - Neile Graham .... neile@sff.net/@zipcon.com ... www.sff.net/people/neile Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal ........ www.sff.net/people/neile/ semaines Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ........... www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ................ www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 00:07:22 -0500 From: meredith Subject: Re: I've been listening to boys!! Hi, Funny how that comes off as a confession 'round these parts, isn't it? ;) Interesting that this thread has come up ... woj and I have spent a quite enjoyable evening listening to a boy, ourselves. Anyone who appreciates well-written, interesting acoustic/Americana music (with a decidedly political bent, at times) should do themselves a favor and check out Jonathan Byrd (www.jonathanbyrd.com). Jonathan is from the Triangle area of North Carolina, and is a phenomenal performer and a lovely human being. I particularly recommend his latest album, _This Is The New That_, which is a much more roots-rock record than his previous stuff ... though _The Sea And The Sky_ is quietly stunning in its own way, too. (Both are albums he has made with the group Dromedary as his backing band.) He's constantly on tour all over the U.S., so check him out if he comes near you ... tell him Meredith from the New Haven Folk Festival sent you. :) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 00:09:20 -0600 From: Timothy Jones-Yelvington Subject: Best of 2007, finally posted with longer capsule reviews. http://perverseadult.blogspot.com/2008/01/greatest-albums-of-2007.html Feedback appreciated! ~tim ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #371 ***************************
