If so, stop by the Moog booth (#6310) and say hello. i wish. we're supposed to be showing a new synth. (dunno how ready for prime-time it is.) > Moog Music are you guys in Asheville NC where Big Briar is/was? i seem to remember that Bob got his trademark back before he passed away. - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2008 15:07:10 -0500 From: morayati@email.unc.edu Subject: Christine Fellows - Nevertheless (and Cortney Tidwell) Catching up on 2007... My God. Christine Fellows just earned goddess status in my personal pantheon (which looks a bit like the Ecto pantheon, give or take a few.) This is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Musically, there's definitely a strong early-20th-century influence (fittingly, since it's partially a homage to Marianne Moore), as well as a strong folk influence (that's folk as in folk songs, not folk as in person-with-an-acoustic-guitar-and-not-much-else.) Also, sheer brilliance. I'd go into more detail but I don't want to spoil it, and there are definitely a few moments one can classify as 'spoilers'. When coming in, it definitely helps to be familiar with poetry (specifically, that of Moore), but if you aren't, the last page of the liner notes contains all of the references. Did I mention this is brilliant? - ---- I also picked up Cortney Tidwell- Don't Let Stars Keep Us Tangled Up. It's a very pleasant album. I know this sounds like faint damning praise, but it isn't. I really like the album. Some albums are meant to blow you away with genius; others are meant to provide you with an hour or so of ethereal beauty. This album accomplishes the second aim admirably. Note of interest (to me at least): the beginning of the title track sounds exactly like Stina Nordenstam. I'm talking the way Happy Rhodes sounds like Kate Bush sometimes. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #364 ***************************
