It was very cool to hear. I waited in the garage until the piece was over, was going to immediately post it to ecto, then got distracted when I got in the house and forgot completely about it. Cheers for Sue for being more on-task than I. :) - -Kat On Fri, January 4, 2008 6:31 pm, Sue Trowbridge wrote: > 8-minute-profile of Issa on All Things Considered: > http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17846588 > > --Sue > - -- _ ___ _.--. \`.|\..----...-'` `-._.-'_.-'` / ' ` , __.--' )/' _/ \ `-_, / `-'" `"\_ ,_.-;_.-\_ ', fsc/as _.-'_./ {_.' ; / {_.-``-' {_/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2008 03:00:01 -0500 (EST) From: Mike Matthews Subject: Today's your birthday, friend... i*i*i*i*i*i i*i*i*i*i*i *************** *****HAPPY********* **************BIRTHDAY********* *************************************************** *************************************************************************** ********************** Paul Cohen (no Email address) ********************** *************************************************************************** -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- - -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Paul Cohen Tue January 05 1954 Capricorn Tony Garrity Mon January 08 1962 Pool of Life Greg Bossert Tue January 09 1962 OfTheTimes Troy J. What you describe sounds exactly like an experience I had last April. (Or occasionally > repeating a meaningless phrase.) What do you know, after the M2OH show tonight, Yuka Honda and Sean Lennon are on the bill. So if you're curious, you can find out exactly what it's like. (And even if you're not curious, if you're going to the show tonight be warned that it will probably be full of Sean Lennon groupies.) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2008 19:07:03 -0500 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Basia Bulat hawks Volkswagens Thanks to Adrian for suggesting I go hunting on YouTube for Basia Bulat videos. Somehow Volkswagen Australia got wind of her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0k_BeBZPYw Tell me that doesn't sound like Susan McKeown. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2008 18:53:33 -0600 From: "Jon Wesley Huff" Subject: JonWes's Top 10 of 2007 Okay, a bit late but I just had a chance to compile it. Here's my Top 10 of 2007.... Here's my top CDs of 2007. 10. Eisley - Combinations I think a little of the magic was lost from their debut, but there's still a great number of good things going for the album. After my initial shock, I found myself listening to it over and over. I mean, it has a song about Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That's pretty cool. 9. Seal - System After his fair share of so-so albums, Seal seems back on track. I can listen to this album straight through, even though some tracks are a bit weaker than others. Even his duet with his wife (Heidi Klum) is really good when it could have been an embarrassment. 8. Happy Rhodes - Find Me It took forever, but the wait was worth it. There are so many good songs on this album. I really like Little Brother, Find Me and Can't Let Go. 7. Stars - In Our Bedroom After The War There's just something very likeable about Stars and their music. It also helps that they know how to craft a catch tune. There's a great variety of material here that makes it worth listening to over and over, though it does sort of dwindle in quality at the end. 6. Charlotte Gainsbourg - 5:55 Dark, mysterious, strange and beautiful. That's how I'd describe this album. It's often strange but never cold. It feels strangely intimate - - almost too intimate - yet has a great alien quality as well. 5. Marie Sioux - Faces In the Rocks She sounds a bit like Joanna Newsom to me in places, which isn't a big surprise since she has some ties to her and members of Newsom's band play with her. But she definitely has her own unique identity. 4. Sea Wolf - Leaves In The River I could listen to this song constantly. There's a great mixture of catchy hooks and great storytelling. You're A Wolf is one of the best tracks of the year. 3. Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton - Knives Don't Have Your Back I discovered Emily Haines with this album. I got it on a whim and fell in love. This and the EP she released are top notch. I checked out Metric (her old band) because of this and fell in love with that band too. 2. Tracey Thorn - Out of the Woods I'm a big Everything But The Girl Fan, so I was excited to get some more songs with Tracey Thorn's lovely voice. I was even more excited about how GOOD this album is. It's like the best of EBTG distilled down to an amazing album. 1. Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold What a lovely, strange album. I find this album fascinating. When I listen to it, it really feels like a fantasy epic. I'm totally transported. It feels dangerous and magical and it's totally involving These albums are also great, and they were new to me, but they technically weren't released in 2007: Helicopter Girl - Voodoo Chic Metric - Live It Out My Brightest Diamond - Bring Me The Workhorse Now It's Overhead - Fall Back Open ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #361 ***************************
