The songs were all hymns to the Sun and the Sea, full ofthe sensual kookiness we've all come to expect from her. Albums canimprint themselves on the seasons for me.http://secretsun.blogspot.com/2007/12/worst-time-of-year.htmlAn interesting blog in and of itself, imho. I don't think music is a contest either (it seems silly to say that it is), but I love Best Of lists. To me, Best Of lists aren't about competition at all - they're fun ways to look back at the year in music (or books, movies, or whatever), go through everything you've enjoyed, and then share and compare it with others whose opinions you respect. I've read and listened to a bunch of Best Of lists this year, and I've got a list of a bunch of albms I want to check out as a result. So I don't see what could possibly be wrong with that. And if some people take it too seriously and make it into a competition, well, that's because they're silly, not because there's anything wrong with making and sharing Best Of lists. It gives me a chance to learn about a bunch of new music from people whose taste I generally agree with. I have discovered many a new artist from folks on ecto, and life being the way it is, I often miss discussions throughout the year, but I make a point of checking the "Best of" lists of the people on ecto to find some new music. And yes, if I got enough music in 2007 to make a "Best of" list, Happy would be on it. Michael Michael R. Colford Chlotrudis Society for Independent Film, President P.O. Which is exactly why it would be nice to see Happy on Best Of lists, to let others know she exists and perhaps check her out. > So I don't see what could possibly be wrong with that. I didn't expect to see her on anyone's list outside of Ecto. Happy's too obscure, ignored, unknown. Only a tiny handful of people outside ecto know who she is. The release of Find Me didn't change anything about that. Inside ecto, **A HAPPY RHODES MAILING LIST**, I would have expected and hoped to see her mentioned on everyone's list. > And if some people take it too seriously and make it into a > competition, well, that's because they're silly, I'm silly thinking that the reason for this mailing lists' existence should make more appearances on Best Of lists after releasing an amazing longlonglong-awaited album? Thanks a lot. I wouldn't go onto a, say, Tori Amos or Kate Bush forum and lament that Happy's not on people's lists. That hurts too, but it's far more understandable that she's forgotten, ignored or unknown. If I can't say something about her being forgotten, ignored or unknown HERE then I truly have nowhere else to go to be a Happy Rhodes fan. "Her music, a kaleidoscope of whirling images and harmonics, combined with Issa's haunting and tender voice, pierces through our human notions, into a place of timeless knowing -- affirming, sacred, and unselfconscious, swaddled in possibility."
