This man's songs mostly annoyed the heck out of me when they played them at the roller rink, but I will admit, now that I'm in my INFP late thirties, that "Same Old Lang Syne" did exactly what it was meant to do. Sad but maybe appropriate timing, if there is such a thing. I'll be honoring his memory. Holiday love to all ectophiles. And actually, that's an exciting thing! I've already listened to most of the artists you've listed on itunes, and they sound great! I think I'll purchase "The Finches" first. What a lovely voice. I'm also intrigued by Essie Jain, Film School, Autumn Shade and Colleen. Thanks for the great list, and I hope you'll share with the group more often! :) Paul - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "This is the time. I was going to get the Scout Niblett, but never got around to it. On past albums, she's never really done enough to set herself apart from similar artists (kinda like PJ lite), but this one sounded great from the reviews I've read. And I've been meaning to listen to Juana Molina for the longest time and not getting around to it. Is this the one I should start with, or is Tres Cosas more essential?? ~tim On 12/22/07 3:13 AM, "Ellepeace@aol.com" wrote: > hi to all fair ectoi. i am not even sure if i ever posted before, though a > member for years. > > a bit about me: i help run a little indie music store in this town. i am an > artist (life drawing, portraiture, wild wicker weaving) vintage record dealer > (chikaskia on eb*y) musician, dancer, and dj (using old records, 45's and > 78's!), and 30+ year movement organiser (bioregional, ecofeminist, > sustainable, > green). > i especially love horses, springs and grandmother trees~ > > i was fixin' to start a best of thread on the now dormant cat power yahoo > group, but am quite excited to share here! > a few of these selections are '06 releases that i only learned about this > past year. > i hope at least a few will be like christmas presents for some of you! > > human like a house the finches > no shouts no calls electrelane > bride of dynamite rio en medio > we made this ourselves essie jain > 5:55 charlotte gainsbourg (usa 2007) > hands across the void tiny vipers > i'll follow you oakley hall > star destroyer alex delivery > les ondes silencieuses colleen > et les bontes ` musique colleen (cecile schott) (10-06) > ys street band joanna newsom > son juana molina (2006) > done with lasers bonde do role > hideout film school > mosaic love of diagrams > 23 blonde redhead > ezra moon autumn shade (local, very ecto, find on myspace) > > new (to me)!: > tout seul dans la foret en plein jour, avez-vous peur? woelv (genevihve > castrie) > > and though we haven't received a copy here yet i care a lot for christine > fellows so can trust her new album would be on my list too: > > nevertheless christine fellows > > now that electrelane has announced "indefinite hiatus", i am looking for more > from verity susman's solo project 'vera november'. Also, Ive been really enjoying the best of the year lists, so keep em coming! I found a lot I enjoyed this year, but everything bought since August hasnt gotten much attention and there are some releases I havent even listened to once yet. If only I had a CD player in my car (I know, so old-fashioned!!) or had thought ahead and dubbed some CDs to tape, I could have caught up during my drive. Oh well. Glad to see mentioned: Juana Molina (by Curtis Andrew Beckwith and Timothy Jones-Yelvington). I think shes fabulous and extremely ecto. Id start with Tres cosas over the newer album Son, but youll want to have both. http://www.myspace.com/juanamolina Amiina and their wonderful album Kurr (by Paul Jensen). This Icelandic quartet has played with Sigur Rss, and their music (string quartet plus unusual instruments and objects-made-instruments and occasional vocals) is beautiful. Quieter and more intimate than Sigur Rss. Kind of like the soundtrack to an underwater film. http://www.myspace.com/amiina Astrid Swans wonderful and eclectic Poverina (by Jason Gordoja). http://www.myspace.com/astridswan Also glad that Christine Fellows is getting some love for Nevertheless. morayati@email.unc.edu asked why it hasnt gotten more attention on ecto. I think its just part of being a late (in the year) release. Ive only had a chance to listen to it once, but I found it gorgeous and cant wait to spend more time with it. http://www.myspace.com/christinefellows Thanks to Jeff Hanson for mentioning Haris Alexious Sour Cherry and Bitter Orange. I had no idea she had a new album! Seems like Ill have to settle for a digital copy, but Im always happy to hear her voice. Why no love for A Fine Frenzy (except from Paul Jensen)? I thought this was a delightful debut, one of the few albums bought since August that Ive listened to several times. http://www.myspace.com/afinefrenzy JoAnn _________________________________________________________________ Share life as it happens with the new Windows Live. http://www.windowslive.com/share.html?ocid=TXT_TAGHM_Wave2_sharelife_122007 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2007 09:37:41 -0800 (PST) From: Craig Gidney Subject: Version of Amos' "Winter" The singer of French shoegazer band Medialovo sings a lovely version of Tori Amos' "Winter", accompanying herself on harp.
