Someone already did a great job in translating my review... thank you :-) Of course you can put the text on Happy's CD Baby page. This is my first posting since joining this list in about 1995 or so... quiet a long time, isn't it! Jochen ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2007 21:10:51 +0200 From: neal copperman Subject: NYC help? Hey everyone, I'm hopefully going to be buzzing through NYC tomorrow (Monday). Currently trapped in Barcelona and desperately need to get back to Albuquerque. Was flying standby and am being killed by an Air France strike, so I bought a ticket to JFK, but couldn't afford one that would take me all the way home (an additional $2000!). I'm going to try to reconnect with my standby ticket once I get stateside again. Unfortunately, my flight to JFK guarantees I won't catch a useful connection, so I'll be stranded in NYC on Monday night. Any suggestions for affordable lodging (yeah, right) or a handy ectohostel out there? I think I'm going to be too exhausted and frustrated to be looking for an adventure, but who knows. Maybe after days of being frustrated, I'll be ready for something more fun. Ecto-friendly WOMEX bands I should write reviews of include: Tania Tagaq (Canada) - Inuit throat singer from Canada who has collaborated with Bjork and Kronos. Stunning set with shades of Iva Bittova and Diamanda Galas. Much crazier and out there then I expected, despite her CD being pretty out there. Tara Fuki (Czech Republic) - who I discovered via ecto years ago. Third CD is just out and apparently has a broader scope of sounds, with extra musicians on it. I was happy to finally see them play though! They performed as a duo - 2 cellos, 2 singers. They are from the Czech Republic and their CD's are in Indies (indies.cz). BTW, Indies also releases a lot of Iva Bittova CD's and they told me she has moved to NYC, so perhaps there will be many more Iva sightings in the future. (She'll be in Albuquerque on November 4. I had better be back by then!) Julie Fowlis (UK) - Beautiful Gaelic vocals with a tasty band. Her latest CD (her 2nd, I think) is a great collection. Some more nice new voices from Cape Verde and Mali as well. And undoubtedly lots of cool new CD's. Ones I noticed was new music from Yasmin Levi and a Garifuna womens collective (from Belize) that look promising. Also saw Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, which had the biggest buzz of the conference. 18 musicians, and more then half of them from Fela's band. A monster throwback to Fela's Afropop of the 70's (which I never got to see, so it was pretty cool). Have had a bit of a nap, so I'm going to find food and see a little of Barcelona before crashing in prep for another early morning run to the airport. neal ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2007 14:49:43 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Re: Find Me review: Babyblaue Seiten (in German) - --- Jochen Rindfrey wrote: > Hi! I'll take meth's translation with Henning's corrections and put them together. Thank you for reviewing Find Me and saying such nice things about it! > This is my first posting since joining this list in about 1995 or > so... quiet a long time, isn't it! Welcome to ecto! (about 12 years too late) :) By the way, what does Babyblaue Seiten mean? I get Babyblue Sides from Bablefish, but even if that were right, what does it mean?
