(ecto post) Is this great or what?? This morning (Monday) CD Baby got in the 37 CDs I sent (a box of 30 and a package of 7), and got them into the system very quickly, but as I type, there's only 1 left, and I bet it'll be gone in the morning. Too cool, because the fast sales put her on the Top Sellers page: http://cdbaby.com/topnow with, ok, a lot of other people, but it's still great to see her there. Wheee! What happened to these plans? This could make the CD more easily available in some countries (just my impression - other LoLo releases can be found in normal shops here). OK, I've already got a copy (thanks again, Vickie!), actually I'm just hoping for another bonus track like on the european MWABT :-) Best wishes, Rolf p.s. They have their own stuff to take care of. > This could make the CD more easily available in some countries (just my > impression - other LoLo releases can be found in normal shops here). Recent releases? > OK, I've already got a copy (thanks again, Vickie!), actually I'm just > hoping for another bonus track like on the european MWABT :-) Yeah, wouldn't it be nice? I'd love to hear "Shutdown" and I fear I never will. But that was a Samson Music thing anyway. As much as I bitch about Samson not doing anywhere near enough for Happy, they did do some things that will never happen again. The Samson era, as sick as it was, was the Golden Age of Happy distribution and extras (the "Roy" single, the "Roy" remixes, the mousepads, the posters, etc.). What a depressing thought. Does anyone know of an online source to buy the European MWABT? There was one, but they don't have it anymore. Someone I know desperately wants a copy. Also, Happy herself wants a copy, she doesn't have one. ACTUALLY, every single artist is asked to send 5 at a time, big artists and little artists, just like Sue said. Otherwise CD Baby would have to rent 5 giant warehouses. I went to the CD Baby office-warehouse this summer with Wendy Rule and it's huge, holding thousand and thousands of artists, 5 cds each! I am one of the artists that have to send in 5 at a time, my Blind works sells in about 2 weeks, my Azigza works sells out almost each week, same with Lovecraft soundtrack, so shipping them weekly is just the price of working with an amazing company. They do not judge who is popular or what, they accept every artist with a finished cd. Imagine if they accepted 20 cds from every artist that made a cd! Insanity! Happy is great, I love her, but she certainly was not singled out by CD Baby in any way, just treated like all the rest of us. Ha, I'll bet Regina Spector wasn't expected to send just 5. Ok ok, I'm well aware that Regina is a "name" and Happy's a nobody, so there's no comparison. My problems probably have more to do with frustration of Happy being obscure than with CD Baby themselves. I'm glad they exist. What they do is amazing and wonderful, and I understand that space is at a premium. I don't believe for a second that an artist who's selling well only sends 5 CDs at a time though, so I assume you're talking about to start with, and then later after sales have settled down, which will happen pretty quickly with Find Me. Soon, the album will disappear into obscurity the way all her other albums have, but for now, I hope the next box she sends will be a box of 100. I think they'll sell. After that I can see them having 5-10 Find Me CDs in stock at all times. It saves me lots of time & $$$ on postage. There are other CDs in our catalog (ahem, not naming names...) where I only send 5 at a time because I know it'll take several months to sell them. So I don't think there's any problem whatsoever with Happy sending them a bigger box based on the way "Find Me" has been selling so far. Amazon.com Advantage is much stricter and will only let you send the exact number they order. I'm really glad I don't have to deal with them anymore because I was sending them small packages of CDs several times a week. - --Sue ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 10:18:25 +1000 From: "Chris Boek" Subject: Re: ecto-digest V13 #287 Paul Jensen wrote: > > Thanks for the great review, Chris. Especially when Laurie and the musicians came forward for the curtain call, and had to step through them! There were three musicians: keyboard, guitar and violin. She introduced them in her "man" voice, which was a nice touch as well. There were also lights suspended around them, which made some interesting visual effects on the cords. After describing all this, I'm starting to realise it wasn't quite so low-tech. It was very static though (nobody moved around). I've only seen her perform live twice. As far as I'm aware she has only been to Melbourne a couple of times, and they were both fairly minimal shows. The last one, from memory, was just Laurie and her equipment, but I'm not 100% sure of that. I'm not even 100% sure when that was, but I'm guessing around 1999/2000. I discovered Laurie at high school back in the mid-80's, around the same time as I discovered Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, which is not surprising since they all contributed to PG's "So" album, which is how they all got linked together for me. And I would also love to have seen one of her high-tech multimedia shows. It's an interesting project, more world-musicy than anything she's ever done before. The songs are in a mix of English, Spanish, Arabic and Hebrew. Four of the songs are translated versions of older songs ("Fallin'", "Be the One", "Sexual Telepathy" & "Because We're Here"). The rest of the songs are all new. Anybody who knows me knows how much I love this woman's music so it should come as no surprise that I think that this album is great. I've only listened through a couple of times but so far "La Tormenta Santa" and "Mica Moca" are early standouts for me. You can buy it at: http://cdbaby.com/cd/disappearfear2. Also see http://www.disappearfear.com.
