MPress Records, a nationally distributed label founded a decade ago by 2005 Independent Music Award Winner Rachael Sage, has begun production on "New Arrivals: Volume 3" (NAV3) - the third in a series of rising artist compilations. Vol. 2 was released this past April to retailers nationwide, and raised funds for Artists Against Hunger & Poverty. 100% of proceeds from Vol. 3 will benefit National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), dedicated to "expanding public understanding and prevention of eating disorders and promoting access to quality treatment for those affected...through education, advocacy and research." "New Arrivals" is a compilation project aimed at increasing exposure for exceptional self-released material. As such, artists will receive free marketing to MPress contacts (i.e. Radio, Press and Internet), as well as cross-promotion at live events presented by MPress Records, including 6000+ pieces distributed at various label-attended industry conferences throughout 2008. As with Volumes 1 and 2, the third volume will be serviced to press and college/AAA radio formats. Says Sage, "The first two volumes were incredibly exciting but also enormously challenging to compile, as we received over 2000 submissions and so many were of high quality. With Volume 2 we were able to organize an eight city national tour involving almost all the artists, with additional showcases at SXSW and CMJ...the project just keeps growing, and there's a real sense of community." For the third year, Sonicbids.com will be the exclusive online platform for "New Arrivals: Volume 3" and will be accepting submissions through October 31st. AAA, Singer-Songwriter, Americana, Rock and Pop submissions are highly encouraged, but all styles of music are welcome and will be considered. MPress Records, which has released seven albums of Sage's keyboard-driven art/pop, has produced numerous showcases and festivals highlighting DIY musicians (i.e. "MPressFests") throughout the country, and plans to present several "New Arrivals" benefit concerts in 2008 to promote the compilation and raise additional funds for NEDA. A to Z Media will be partnering with MPress as the official CD duplication sponsor for "New Arrivals". In addition, Musicians Atlas, Online Gigs, Music Dish, A Taste of Triple A, Powderfinger Promo, H Magazine and a wide range of music, media and lifestyle companies will be donating products/services toward prize packages for selected musicians. Vol. 3 will also include one Bonus Track by a more established artist, to be announced shortly; Bonus Tracks on prior volumes were donated by Jill Sobule and Melissa Ferrick. * * * Sponsorship Inquiries: Miguel Balbi, miguel@mpressrecords.com or call 212.481.7243 Press Inquiries: Monica Hopman, monica@thinkpress.net or call 818.291.9513 Artist Submission Link: http://www.sonicbids.com/newarrivalsvolume3 Opportunity Website: http://www.newarrivalscd.com Beneficiary: http://nationaleatingdisorders.org Label Website: http://www.mpressrecords.com ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 14:54:28 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Del Palmer Hi, I just wanted to point out that a.) I wrote him to thank him and he wrote back saying that "It's my pleasure to have great artists on my page.... Pass on my warmest regards to Happy.." Way back in 1994 at that year's Homeground fan KonvenTion in London, Uli, Wieland and I made up Happy sampler cassettes to pass around to Kate fans. I personally gave one of them to Del. I asked him to pass it along to Kate but hoped that he would listen to it and like it too. I mentioned it in my letter but he didn't respond to that part of it, so I don't know if he's liked her since then because of the tape, or if he just discovered Happy when I sent an add request. I have such fond memories of that convention (and the 1990 one too), for one because we talked Peter Fitzgerald-Morris and company into playing the Acoustic Tribute Version of "Feed The Fire" over the sound system. Someone innocently made a mistake and started "Summer" instead, so hundreds of Kate fans were probably jerked aware because they might have thought they were hearing new Kate. Then after a bit, whoever behind the scenes stopped "Summer" and started ATVFTF. That was so great! A lot of people got to hear what we'd been trying to tell them all along. I don't know if any new fans came of it, I've never heard anyone say so ("yeah I was at a Kate fan convention in London and they played this amazing thing on the speaker system") but You Never Know. Happy's on vacation, so there's not a thing she can do about getting them more until she gets back. I know for a fact that as I type there are 43 people waiting for CDs (the number has been rising steadily since yesterday morning), so anyone who's reading this, if you're one of those 43, hopefully you're not 37-43 (I assume they send them out in order received) or you'll have to wait at least a week and a half-two weeks. I'm very pleased! I knew she'd sell some at CD Baby, but yeah, I did worry about how many. Now I'm not worried anymore. Vickie ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2007 00:09:01 -0400 From: JoAnn Whetsell Subject: Issa live, tonight, with Adrienne Pierce So this was my first concert since moving to North Carolina 2 1/2 months ago. The Carolina Arts Centre is a surprisingly nice venue for a place that's located in a small town shopping center. Anyway. Adrienne Pierce opened the show with a brand new song, a couple of songs from her second album Faultlines, and" Arizona" from her first album. (By the way, Faultlines is still available only as a digital release (iTunes), but Adrienne has pressed copies for sale with her on the road.) Tim Ray came on stage and joined in during "Arizona," then Issa came out too, in a dark turquoise-green sleeveless, knee-length velvet dress and olive green velvet coat, a hat with a plaid top and black sides, pink-and-red patterned socks, and black heels. After the song ended, Adrienne left the stage, and Issa and Tim launched into their set. Issa's look reminded me of Jane's 80s look, and the music did too, in a way, in the sort of loose, almost formless songs like "The Bird in the Gravel," unconventional songs that you listened to with no idea where they were going next. The new songs are kind of like that, but also in the vein of the songs from the _Tree_ and _Lips_ shows/albums. The songs incorporated animal sounds (birds, dogs; there was a moose in one song, but she might not have 'sounded' it), conversations, phone calls. They ranged from funny to thought-provoking ("Children, what do you need to feel safe" was a line in a song inspired by teens who hung out at a bus shelter in an English village; "Even as we fall from grace, grace shall lift us up and teach us our power" was a line from another song) to poignant ("Mama, let us agree to disagree, my life is fine and you can be free" was the chorus of one song, inexact wording). And there was some weirdness thrown in too. But Issa was mesmerizing. Her performance was quite theatrical; her body movements and facial expressions. It's hard to imagine how these songs would translate to a CD. Her voice is as beautiful as ever. Tim's piano is as fantastic as ever. He also played a small keyboard that sat on top of the grand piano, adding to the theatricality of the night with flute and organ sounds, deep basses, and royal brass (for the song "When We Are Queen"). There was one break, and Tim started the second set with a beautiful piano solo that ended with "The Valley." It was the smallest and quietest audience I'd experienced, probably about 45 people. A clearly appreciative audience. I don't think she's come too near here before, so long-time fans were absolutely thrilled to have her. "Graced," one woman put it. After the show Issa came out and talked to all the people who had waited. She recognized my face, she said, and I was quite surprised, as it was nearly 10 years ago I saw her last, at the Rosebud in Pittsburgh. All in all, a wonderful night. I highly highly recommend you catch an upcoming show if you can. I can't say that I entirely like this new direction, but I find it fascinating, especially live. It's an experience.
