I had heard a lot about them but hadn't actually heard any of their music nor seen them play. Wow. Those are two damned talented people!! Brazz Tree are a duo, imagine if Tuck and Patti performed Celtic-influenced neo-folk music. I enjoyed their performance a lot. My brain is mush right now so I'm blanking on his name, but the guy guitarist is *stunningly* good, and manages to show his chops without seeming like he's showing off. And Mazz, the vocalist/fiddler is really, really good, too. Sometimes it's odd to hear a voice that's coming from a more gospel/R&B background singing traditional Irish songs, but she makes it work. She's a heck of a fiddler, as well. So yeah, I'd recommend checking them out. They put on a great show. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 21:12:20 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: audiences (a pox on 'em) Hi, Re audiences: I always go into a Tori show expecting to want to kill somebody (or several people) before I'm done. The only mystery is how many songs into the show it will be before I get this way. But when it happens it's never a surprise, so it's easier for me to deal with that way. Adam Kimmel wrote: > And, as an off-topic corrollary, does anybody else have trouble remembering song titles? I used to be really sharp on them, but in the days that I would listen with the album sleeve in front of me, reading the lyrics or notes as the music played. Now that I do most of my listening while in transit on my music player, I can't put names to the tunes. I once considerd myself a PJ Harvey fan, but reading Karen's excellent review of her concert, I realised that I actually couldn't mentally summon up any of the songs she mentioned, and the same with the Tori thread: When people have been raving about individual songs on anything from BfP onwards, often as not I just draw a mental blank. That's pretty much my situation. I used to sit there the first 2 or 3 times I got a new album studiously poring over the liner notes, trying to memorize the lyrics as quickly as possible. Now, I couldn't rattle off the track listing of any of the albums I've acquired in the last 3 or 4 years that weren't released on MPress Records if you paid me. I think it's a combination of different media (shuffling iPod vs. listening to CD in its entirety with liner notes in hand) and, sadly, age. I seriously fear that I'm going to be an early Alzheimer's patient sometimes. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 22:43:11 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: audiences (a pox on 'em) On 10/17/07, meredith wrote: > I used to sit there the first 2 or 3 times I got a new album studiously poring over > the liner notes, trying to memorize the lyrics as quickly as possible. I'm in the same boat, except that it's been a lot longer since I pored over liner notes. The exception is when I went on the Cowboy Junkies train last November and decided that before starting the trip I'd better pay a bit more attention when listening to their albums. I'm pretty good with their song titles now. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 22:56:32 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: Brazz Tree in Mass, KY, MO, IL, Chicago, NYC On 10/17/07, meredith wrote: > Wow. They pick up folk influences from all over the place. I seem to remember something from Spain and something from Bulgaria maybe... The last time they played Joe's Pub in NYC, for their CD release, they had 9 people up on stage: 2 backing vocalists, a bass player, drums, a cello, a viola, an electric guitar, and Mazz and Brad. They rocked! I hear that at the upcoming Joe's Pub show on the 27th they're not going to have a big band with them, though. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2007 20:59:04 -0700 From: birdie Subject: Bubbles and Cheesecake ok, so...it's a little off topic...but....lol.....some of you will really love this.
