Gee, I like both "Big Stripey Lie" and "Why Should I Love You." On the other hand, really not a fan of "Joanni," from _Aerial_. It's not that bad, I suppose, but it just seems like KaTe could have done so much more with the source material! jeff ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 7 Oct 2007 08:06:53 -0500 From: Steve Schiavo Subject: Kate / Eberhard The Kate talk reminds me of a question I've had for a while. I think his songs are goodbut they're not *that goodTO ME. I can go without listening to them because it means I don't have to hear his voice. For example, I used to dislike Dar Williams' voice (early on in her career), but I loved her songs so much I just listened anyway. I can't do that with Dylan. Dar's voice on the other hand, has improved immensely, IMHO. But one day I accidentally listened to _Time Out Of Mind_. And his voice is shot. It lost a lot of that endearing nasally/whiney quality that we know and love so well, moving more toward whiskey, tobacco and gravel. And it works. brni > > I know that's the correct statement to make so as not to upset anyone > and many truly agree with this. I think his songs are goodbut they're > not *that goodTO ME. Subject: RE: best worst song Oh, funny you should mention Wildfire! I went to junior and high school in the mountains of Colorado, about an hour southwest of Denver, and Michael Murphy lived nearby. He came to the school one day to do a meet-and-greet and of course got coaxed into doing his, at that time, one and only hit. It was actually a lovely performance, if you ignored the smattering of junior high girls weeping their rather dramatic tears. I wasn't one of them 'cause I was in my KISS phase at the time, so a story about a horse didn't do much for me. Haven't seen it mentioned yet but Seasons in the Sun was one of the first 45s I ever bought, in fact I think it may have been the very first. That's another one I'd have to put pretty high on the "Oh, I'm so embarrassed" list. But hey, I was 9 and was working my way out of a Donny Osmond crush. There were 12 issues and I still have a limited number of copies. They are a MUST for any serious Happy Rhodes collector. Autographed issues are also available. You can view the covers and a list of contents for each issue at www.geocities.com/runly/backissues.html.
