If Ectofest Europe would happen before we multiplies (maybe 2-3 years from now), chances are great for us to travel almost anywhere in Europe to go to Ectofest. This May we went to Milan, Italy to see Dolores O'Riordan live. We live in Oslo, Norway. I mentioned this to an earlier housemate of mine yesterday and he would also travel almost anywhere if Ectofest Europe is going to happen. But we would _prefer_ Amsterdam. I'm honoured that you think I'm important Vickie! However, I'd have to agree with brni that it's the parcel that's really important ;). And I'm a bit disconcerted by the suggestion that PTFVIP is a genuine acronym, rather than something that brni made up for a joke! Mind you if there was one, I'd have tried to squeeze into it the other way a couple of weeks ago .... now there's a thought for modern day intercontinental travel ... I can't find it now, but a couple of years ago there was a joke website up about preparing for the first transatlantic train from Europe to New York. :) Ellen, who once had a student (not a very intelligent one, mind you) back in Colorado ask how long it would take to drive to England. When a classmate replied that it depended on how well your car floated, as there kind of was this great body of water in the middle, he retorted with, "Yeah, I know there's an ocean. But there's a bridge." :) The rest of the class and I discussed how many rest stops you'd need on such a bridge and where the people who worked them would live. ;) The really scary thing is that the questioner joined the US Navy. :( ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2007 11:04:20 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: I received the next shipment of CDs from Happy...LOTS of CDs Happy just sent me a box of 100(!) CDs, so no one should worry about me not having enough, such as if you're sending a check. Does anyone else want one? Or two, or three (or 10?), because this is a lot of CDs. (Ok, only one person I know wants 10). Happy didn't send mailers (or stickers) with this shipment, so I'll be going back to bubble packs. I need to go to Office Depot right now, and I'll come back home and start packaging up CDs, and they WILL go to the Post office today. I'll check mail again before I head out to the Post Office, to see if anyone else has ordered. While all ecto-eyes were on Boston for Ectofest, we were hard at work in New Mexico putting together the 3rd Annual !Globalquerque! festival. This year was surprisingly ecto-friendly, with some great artists that I can enthusiastically recommend if you haven't seen them before. We also had ecto attendance from Jeff Hanson (who lives here and ran the merch booth) and Sue Trowbridge, who came in from CA and does our web site. You can see Sue's report on the fest here: http://www.interbridge.com/weblog Ecto-friendly artists you should check out: Marta Gomez - an amazing singer from Colombia. She does a jazzy pan-Latin thing that usually isn't my cup of tea, but Marta's got so much heart and her music is so beautiful that I fall in love with it over and over. I have 2 CD's on Chesky, both of which I can highly recommend. Baka Beyond - UK/Cameroon fusion that's great party music. Ilgi - folk rock from Latvia. Our third time presenting them, and their best show yet. Fiamma Fumana - probably the biggest hit of the festival. This Italian band of women singers is infectious folk pop with a beguiling blend of traditional instruments and modern electronics. Everyone was dancing and grooving to them. I've been listening to the most recent CD on Omnium for months and never get tired of it. Yungchen Lhamo - the enchanting goddess of song from Tibet. Yungchen spent a week in New Mexico. Sue and Joe took her to the State Fair (also in the blog), and we all had dinner in Old Town. I got to spend a lot of time with her and she is truly a magical being. You can experience that in her music, but people pick up on it all over the place. Wherever we went, people stopped to talk with her. Of course, it helps that she is radiant, with the longest hair I have ever seen, and tends to dress in ornate embroidered outfits. Yungchen's latest CD - Ama (mother) - on Realworld, features guest appearances by Annie Lennox and Joy Askew. It's very haunting and Krystov plays the beautiful enchanting Indian Dilruba on it, if you would like to hear it or download it please go to: http://www.myspace.com/cyoakhagrace A dear friend and the "third leg" of the new Land of the Blind trio, Rhan Wilson, (Thoth's drummer) has a lovely page on his site devoted to Peace Signs of all kinds. We have changed he name from SHEMANA ELECTRONA to SHAMANS OF SOUND, since we are more about healing & journeying thru dance, than electronic sounds/canned beats. It features BLIND's mid-up tempo magical music, we just added Rhan on big fat bass with Krystov on didj, it's very bottom heavy, (nothing like a big fat bottom!) Rhan also plays electric guitar & djembes & some wild ethnic-exotic instruments, uber chill coolness. On my new song for Burning Man, "Tribe of Dance," he added a baritone ukulele playing a combo of Flamenco & Middle Eastern riffs! Dark shemanic dance song "Shemana" now features a GIANT African Kalimba, about 4 ft long! I wanted to mention that Yungchen fled Tibet on foot about 20 years ago, and where does she live now? In Peter Gabriel's house in New York. How cool is that? (She records for RealWorld, the label Peter founded, which has also released albums by Sheila Chandra.) Her voice is so pure and beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Check out her web site at http://www.yungchenlhamo.com/ . I highly recommend Globalquerque! if you're looking for a fun vacation destination -- New Mexico is fantastic, and very easy & affordable to get to for most Americans, as Southwest flies there. Would love to see some other Ectophiles in attendance next Sept.! - --Sue ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #259 ***************************
