Or, for a computer-minded folk, do it all in a way that allows for easy sorting, starting from the biggest unit and working downwards: year-month-day. But why in God's name would you start IN THE MIDDLE??!? I wish someone could similarly liberate Laura Nyro's "Nested" and "Mother's Spiritual" from Sony. I thought the current CD release of "Tapestry" was a remastered or deluxe version or something. At least I'm pretty sure the copy I have includes one or two live bonus tracks or demos. I've always thought Carole King was a little bit overrated and conventional compared to the likes of Laura and Joni (or have you heard of Essra Mohawk?), but I completely understand why "Tapestry" is classic. I also saw her perform in "Blood Brothers" once on Broadway, and she was fantastic. ~tim On 9/6/07 12:30 AM, "Ella McCrystle" wrote: > Sorry to interrupt the 'fest talk, but I bring you news on the Carol > King and Shivaree fronts: > > I'm not entirely sure how "ecto" either are except in the strictest > sense of the word. While talking and ringing are examples of noise pollution during concerts, I remember a presentation of digital art I went to last year. Big, dark conference room with a big projection screen up front, a half dozen presenters illuminated by a very soft spotlight. Very easy to get lost in the light of the projected art. Then this bonehead comes in and sits in the row ahead of me, opens up his laptop and starts working on a frickin' spreadsheet, blinding everyone in the rows behind him. He was loudly whispered some unprintable names and soon left, thankfully. Accepted too. I know we've talked about this tape, but I had completely forgotten. Plus, I don't think, in the times we talked about it, you had ever mentioned that the people talking were your friends and with you. I just assumed they were random people walking by who stopped to talk right by you. > I am looking forward to the show, but I > can't say I'm looking forward to driving to Boston... I actually > think the expression "looking forward to driving to Boston" is > forbidden in the American English language. Or should be. I think the phrase is "looking forward to driving *in* Boston," not that anybody would be insane enough to say it. I've done it, back when I used to drive cars for a living, and consider it a badge of honor that I'm still alive to tell about it. Few things have ever freaked me out more than driving on a Boston highway in rush hour, being in the right lane, and having multiple people pass me. On the right. Via the shoulder. People treated it just like another lane to be used. I kept thinking, about the car I was driving, pleading "oh please oh please, don't break down" because there would have been nowhere to go. > And as for me not talking before or after, that's more of a > reflection on my benign lack of social confidence than from any > chastising here. That makes me feel better. Not you having a lack of social confidence (I do too, oh boy do I) but that it wouldn't be because you're mad at me. I'll give you a glow stick as a peace offering. I read positive reviews of this one, so decided to start with it. It's a collaboration with a dude named Kale Karsh, with assistance from several others, and it's one of those rare collaborations that is actually better than the sum of its parts (as opposed to the more frequent occurrence of scattered, inconsistent letdowns). It's creatively-charged alchemy. The compositions are complex and involving and move between traditional Indian, European classical and pop in an organic and non-contrived way. The vocal collaborators are really strong, and include Sting and Norah Jones (the first Norah Jones song I've ever liked!!), and there's also a great two-part duet with Ravi.
