If you're around and looking to hear some great music, it'd be cool to see y'all. (We've got the band with us too, featuring ecto legend Dean Sharp on drums/percussion and the phenomenal Russ Johnson on trumpet.) Tonight at 8 pm we're at Epic Arts Studios in Berkeley, and tomorrow at 8 we're at the (intimate, yet vibey :) Dolores Park Cafe in San Francisco. Hope to see you while we're in your neck of the woods! - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 08:11:42 -0500 From: CollectedSounds Subject: Re: Hmmm is this legal? birdies wrote: > Were the 2 songs by Happy highlighted as downloadable on myspace? I realized in my haste, that I was doing it wrong. I was simply typing in her name, what you have to do is type in the myspace name, as in what follows the .com/ section of the artists URL on MySpace. I tried a bunch of other artists and they were all there. I did not try to download anything, I just checked to see and each one I did (When I did it "correctly") popped up. My understanding is that this is not sanctioned by MySpace, it's some hacker who figured out how to get in there. So I wouldn't blame MySpace (unless they know about it and don't care). - -- Amy Collected Sounds www.collectedsounds.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 12:23:39 -0700 From: birdie Subject: Myspace needs an investigative reporter on its tail Do we have any journo's in the house? Check this out - One of my friends, Nashville Bound, sent this out as a bulletin on myspace. I'd just like to add that before you get to his story - a TOP friend of mine was recently in the top artist spots for all 3 of their catergories... #1 Soul #2 Acoustic #4 Pop - was getting over 70,000 plays a day on some days......probably 500 new friend requests a day...etc....it went crazy! yeah yeah thats a huge crowd to be playin to for free... Myspace records said they'd match any record label offers they got - well...the labels, fools that they are, pay attention to the myspace charts, and lots of offers came in...but really, who wants a major label deal unless the terms are really agreeable, and basically, they aren't... Anyway, I made a crack "watch - xxx will get dropped like a stone from the charts when myspace records get turned down" well....the phone rang a few days later......"Your joke was right on" They came in and cleared all the counters (except for the plays for each song - which was over 2 million total)...the daily plays and the total plays and the profile views. Total thuggery. They started making threats before this happened.... Anyway, it's time for some sharp music journo with a keen investigative nose to do a big ass expose on Myspace and Myspace Records... and...everybody else.....lets get busy on alternatives as I can see things are gonna just implode over there - eventually. Imagine what an article in Rolling Stone would do.... Is there an Ecto webring???????? see below WHY IS MYSPACE FREE? Body: Let's face it, nothing in life is free and especially something like the internet. Corporate giants like MySpace can afford to give away the service to you because they have sold your records over and over again. Let me give you an example. Today I logged on for 15 minutes and I checked the internet downloads for the time I was on MySpace and there were 1,323 files downloaded to my computer. That is over 1,000 people who bought access to my records and received it from MySpace in just 15 minutes. Yesterday I was on the computer 4 times on MySpace and a total of 9,325 files were downloaded, all companies I did not authorize to have access to my computer and all secretly hidden on my system. I'm certain there were more but these were the obvious ones. What rights do you have? None! I have excellent security and Microsoft Internet Explorer has a firewall and I block all third party cookies and still there were 9,325 companies monitoring my every movement. So I guess free has a price tag as well. Often I mention the bizzare tactics of the MySpace music experts and their lack of interest in being fair or anything except greedy which defies explanation. Things haven't changed in the past three months so I just thought I would let you know what a band has to experience if they are not paying MySpace for some service. After 3 months in the top 5 in Swing, top 10 in Western Swing and at least top 50 in Rockabilly we are #23 in Swing, #33 in Western Swing and unranked in Rockabilly or Country. At one point over 600 of our plays were "lost" by MySpace, then showed up all at once. Right now we are missing about 80 plays with no explanation from MySpace. Many times the email stopped working, the "online" icons vanished, our logon stopped working, we were not able to respond to emails, and on and on. Over 30 emails have been sent to MySpace and they have never responded to any of our questions. According to MySpace the charts are determined by plays today, the number of friends, and the number of profile views. We have more friends than any band in Swing, the highest average of profile views to plays, and are in the top 3 in profile views daily yet never come close to where we should be ranked. Probably the only way to get fair treatment on this free web site would be to hire MySpace to sell our records, hire MySpace to sell our merchandise and advertise on MySpace and each action means things aren't really free at all on MySpace. The internet is a great tool, but it is also the greatest invasion of privacy in history. It unlocks doors to international communication but it also open the doors to every crook and pedophile in the world. Use it since it is using you. New Two Loons for Tea album Hey, I have an advance copy but it lists the release date as August 14. Like the previous Two Loons discs, this is a wonderful collection of music: haunting and powerful, that is growing and growing on me. I LOVE Sarah Scott's voice and like the whispering "Consuela" where Jonathan does the vocals for the first time. It's their first album in five years, and highly, highly recommended. I've updated their page on the Ectophiles' Guide: http://www.ectoguide.org/artists/two.loons and linked to their myspace page there if you want samples. - --Neile - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham .... neile@sff.net/@drizzle.com ... www.sff.net/people/neile Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal ........ www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines Editor, The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ........... www.ectoguide.org Workshop Administrator, Clarion West ................ www.clarionwest.org ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Aug 2007 12:18:49 +1000 From: andrew fries Subject: Re: Fuzz birdie wrote: > Has anyone spent much time exploring www.fuzz.com ?? > > I love their manifesto.
