Of course that's worth it. Hey woj, do we have tix yet?? (Do we even know what project she's doing? Not that it matters, really ...) > tue, october 9th - rachael sage I should point out to all and sundry that this is going to be a special one-time-only show where Rachael will be accompanied by a string quartet. Sadly, I didn't check the Martyr's website until this morning - when I discovered that her gig was changed to Tuesday 14th (yesterday). Tomorrow she'll be playing at Milwaukee Irishfest instead. That teaches me about believing record label newsletters - and not to check dates and buy tix online! I'm so sorry you missed it, I didn't know you were interested in Eddi because I missed your earlier post. We went (had bought tickets online after last week's "Ladies Of The Canyon Do Kate Bush" show) and I hate to make you feel worse, but it was phenomenal! It took 3 songs before I stopped leaking tears out of my eyes and the goosebumps went away. Well, they never really went away totally, and neither did the misty eyes. I couldn't believe I was in the same room as Eddi Reader! Close up, too. (picture of the view from our seat: http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/music/Eddi_Reader_08-14-2007_016.jpg) Her voice is still as perfect as it ever was, if not even better. She's fun and funny and very laid-back, as proven by the interesting and sometimes bawdy stories she told before each song. She performed songs from all phases of her career (though none, boo hoo, from Mirmama), even Fairground Attraction ("Perfect," "Allelujah," and a freakin' killer a capella version of "Clare"), but the show skewed heavily toward her Robert Burns' songs, since she was brought to Chicago as a benefit for a local Scottish charity (Illinois St. Andrews Society). It's possible, keep your fingers crossed, that the St. Andrews people who brought her here last night will be able to bring her back for the Chicago Celtic Fest. They're working on it. I was able to speak to Eddi between sets and again after the show. She said that now her kids are grown (I believe the youngest is 17) she can get out and tour a lot more. She sounded like she was jazzed to do that. Eddi played a couple of different acoustic guitars, and the cutest ukelele. Boo Hewerdine played guitar. I talked to him outside between sets and told him I first heard about him when I got Laurie Freelove's amazing 1991 album Smells Like Truth. He seemed a bit surprised that someone remembered it. Also with her was a fantastic violin/flute/mandolin player, John McCusker, and Alan Kelly, who played the accordian. No drums or bass. They were all great and worked so well with her. It was a perfect lineup. As Carolyn said, Eddi will be playing Thurday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Milwaukee Irish Fest before heading back to Scotland. The schedule is here: http://irishfest.concertedsystems.com/ and if you click on her name on the left side you can get her dates and times in one place. Anyone who lives in or anywhere near Milwaukee (I'm looking at you Chip!) HAS to see her! Chris is going out of town or else we'd take the train up to see her again. Chris has a handy-dandy little recorder thingy that plugs into his iPod and it records directly onto his hard drive, so we did tape the show. If anyone's interested go to this directory and look for Eddi: http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/music/ Or, here are the direct URLs: Set one: http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/music/Eddi_Reader_08-14-2007_first_set.mp3 Set two: http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/music/Eddi_Reader_08-14-2007_second_set.mp3 Chris extracted the a capella Clare, here it is: http://suspended-in-gaffa.com/music/Eddi_Reader_Clare_08-14-2007.mp3 I haven't listened to these yet so if anyone has any problems, PLEASE let me know. Shamefully, I don't have all of Eddi's albums (though we did buy her newest one last night) so if any huge Eddi fans can give me a set list from those files, that'd be much appreciated! Btw, I (of course) gave Eddi a Happy CD. I hope she gets a chance to listen to it. (In fact, I gave away 3 Happy CDs last night: one to Eddi, one to a couple sitting next to us who had driven up from Indianapolis for the show, and to a woman who was working there who performed last week at the Kate Bush show...she did a FREAKING ***KILLER*** version of "Kite"!!). I so always hope they get listened to, but I always fear they never do.) Vickie - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Music's the way, the only way I know... Hi Were the 2 songs by Happy highlighted as downloadable on myspace? Since myspace installed LOADS of advertising and at the same time installled Capcha software...so, you basically have to enter a code to send comments and messages...and that is very time consuming...it has made it essentially impossible to leave lots of comments to friends to alert them to shows or new CD's... Which means its usefulness to artists has taken a serious nosedive while advertisements of non music companies have risen dramatically. So, let's see....its a place where music is given away free by musicians and commerical advertisers are everywhere to appeal to the crowds coming in for the free music... The commerical adverisers pay myspace. The time has come for myspace to start paying musicians... It basically functions like a webring. We need a groovy code wizard to make a music space that we can all move in to without Murdoch using everyone for free to get paid by advertisers.
