It shut him up. ;) > Hey, other Greg! Don't be a big tease, what was on that list? I'll bet it would generate all sorts of arguments, er, I mean discussions! Ahem. Is anybody else like me, an enthusiastic supporter of rap when it first came out, but now no longer? When it was new, it was exciting and was open to all sorts of possibilities. Groups like De la Soul and Boogie Down Productions were innovative, clever and funny (especially De la) and had positive messages (like BDP) but the genre has bogged down into formulated, violent macho crap with the dullest music imaginable backing the lyrics. The thing I liked most about early rap was the way they told stories. The first rap song I heard was "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. Listen to that and you will see why rap originally held such promise! - GB - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn.Laugh.Share. (except for Hill Street Blues, that was good.) - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2007 15:11:14 -0400 From: "robert bristow-johnson" Subject: more about lodging around Boston. i'm not gonna wait for Henning to post this to the list. Henning Rech informed me about a cheap (US$76) Motel 6 in Braintree Mass: http://www.motel6.com/ms/check-availability.do?property=1057 that is 150 meters away from the southernmost stop of the Boston MBTA "Red Line" http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/ (hit the "Interactive Street Map" tab and zoom in to the very bottom of the Red Line) which is also the very same subway that comes to Central Square in Cambridge http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Inman+Sq+02139&sll=42.20975,-70.995262&sspn=0.010315,0.015771&ie=UTF8&ll=42.369468,-71.100576&spn=0.010289,0.015771&z=16&om=1 where one can walk (or transfer to a bus) about 600 meters to Inman Square. i don't give a rat's ass about Motel 6, so if people want to organize an ectophile crash pad, that might be a good place for it. also, somewhat to my surprize, no one has yet responded to me about this guest room i reserved on Beacon Hill for the 7th and 8th for $95/night (2 people). slightly more money, slightly less privacy (bathroom is not attached to the guest room), but right downtown by Boston Commons, etc. a very cool community of Quakers live there (northern urban Quakers ain't the same as Southern Baptists in rural Alabama - no one there are Bushies nor try to sell religion to anyone). i think i can get outa the reservation for the 7th, i haven't paid for that yet. i think that this is a nice room and great location, and had originally been holding it for outa-town musician(s) (that won't need it now). someone lemme know before i start canceling stuff. Having seen Regina before (she was great -- adorable and impressive as always), the real revelation for me was Patti, who completely reshaped my consciousness of what a rock concert is or should be. Fracking incredible. I feel like a very humbled Gen Y'er.
