Portland show was great, intimate and stunning! Oregon Country Fair was also outstanding, enjoyed showing Wendy the friendly freaks of Oregon! She's back east now, Blind just played FaerieWorlds in Eugene and had a fantastic show. (I can highly recommend FaerieWorlds to all ectos on the west coast as extremely ecto!) Just got back tonight to SF and flying out tomorrow to Pittsburg, heading to Starwood Festival in Sherman NY. Me, or we, Cyoakha Grace/Land of the Blind play the Pufferdome at midnight Friday night @ Starwood Festival if any ectos are going! Wendy is also attending so I'll get to see her one more time on the right coast before she heads to Europe. I tried to pull an ecto concert together on the east coast because it's been 3 or 4 years since Blind toured there but nothing came thru in time, not even a house concert, so sorry folks! I tried but it was very hard to book while being already on the road with Wendy. Anyway, thanks to all those ectos east that tried to make it happen (like Philip David!) and thanks to all the west ectos for their support of wendy and my tour. peace, Cyo http://www.landoftheblind.com/ to order BLIND's CDs/Gigs/Bios http://www.sonicbids.com/landoftheblindcyoakhagrace Electronic Press Kit - Calendar http://www.cyoakhagrace.com/ for indie movie producers, pro bio http://www.myspace.com/landoftheblind music samples http://www.myspace.com/cyoakhagrace free new downloads ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 09:18:18 -0500 From: Doug Subject: Re: I found a new album of the year contender > I was really curious about that group just based on their poster. > They are coming to town in early August. I picked it up since I have at least enjoyed almost everything she has done so far (with the exception of most of Am I Not Your Girl and the song Kyrie which I can't stand). Certainly not as compelling as The Lion And The Cobra, but then what is? If you like Sinead, you will probably like this. But, it probably won't win her any new fans among the Ecto crowd. Between the two discs, I mostly prefer the more sparse versions of the songs. The ones on that disc are usually just her and one or two instruments instead of the full band versions on the other disc. But, surprisingly, both versions of each song are good, just different from each other. > Many tour dates around the world the rest of the year, including a > pretty good US swing as well as across Europe, and even Russia. I have never seen Sinead live. She is one of the only members of my personal goddess canon that I haven't. (I've seen Tori, Sarah McLachlan, and many others. Unfortunately I'll probably never get to see Kate Bush live.) Hopefully I will be able to see her in Philadelphia in October. Anyone else planning to attend that show? - -Rodney ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 11:14:16 -0400 From: "Karen Hester" Subject: Maria McKee at Joe's Pub I've been listening to Maria McKee since I was 12 so seeing her live for the first time involved shaking knees and then a gasp as that vibrato poured out. Over the years she has pulled from country, punk, soul, r'n'b, grunge, and now her theatrical voice has led her deeper into musical theatre, so rich and spilling at the seams as the volume climbs and the vibrato spins wild. With her voice and gypsy dress (extravagant fabric in black and red, tossing her arms as her bracelets slipped down and got in the way of the guitar), Maria was quite a sorceress. And then she'd make a wedgie joke, tell us about the festival she'd just played in Sweden (herself, Alice Cooper, 100 Swedish New Wave bands) where she played right after a local star and when the fainting girls fled she was left with 100 middle aged men, joke that her Irish backing singer was just going to sit there as a piece of performance art, and describe the time a man stopped her show to hold a prayer service for her sick dog. She played songs from throughout her career on the piano and guitar, with and without the band - Shelter, Wheels, I've forgotten what it was in you (that put the need in me), Breathe, Life is sweet, Absolutely barking stars, a deranged 'Be my joy' ("only you make me a human"), as well as a few new songs, a Neil Young cover, and one of her brother's songs. Support act and friend of Maria, Astrid Williamson, ex of Goya Dress, was charming as she chatted in her Shetland Islands accent. I found her music really boring though, lyrically and musically. The only thing to stick in my head was the line "I'm drinking Champagne Bellinis just to think about you" - you're allowed to toss back cheap red wine, fiery whiskey or pints of beer in a maudlin song, but bellinis are just tacky. What silly prejudices I have! K. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2007 09:13:17 -0400 From: "Tom Conlon" Subject: Re: Ectofest 2007 web site ectofest.com (Also ectofest.org.) Not that I know anything about the plumbing or business side of Pay Pal but you may want to consider this alternative: Virtuous.org I have used it often with small venues (coffee houses) for out of town shows. They accept M/C & Visa, only charge a $1 'vig' and you print out your receipt page. They must send the venue/promoter the paid attendance list. Just a thought from a lurker. I'm actually in the area (Metro West) and considering showing up to ectofest to hear for myself. BTW, i'm in conversation with Happy/Noe about this (need to get back in touch with Casey). this is gonna be a cool gig. Women On Air (syndicated on some NPR stations) is locally produced in Boston and they're really interested in this and this week have a Happy song (Many Worlds) on the show (along with KaTe). - -- r b-j rbj@audioimagination.com "Imagination is more important than knowledge." ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 19:29:44 -0500 From: Timothy Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: music review spoilers Woops.
