How sneaky do you have to be with the hotel about having a whole bunch of people crashing in one room? Perhaps someone with experience could provide some pointers. Now, I hear one of the peppier songs from Brazilian Girls being used for the AT&T Blackberry commercial (I really, really like you) from the song JIQUE, which is sung on the CD in 3 different languages. Hi, I made the fun drive from Topeka KS to Columbia MD. The roads here are a maze. Also: the speed limit is 55 but everyone goes 70- 80. It is the few who zig and zag that get the Police's attention. I heard Dweezil Zappa is playing 'someplace' around here but I had little notice to think about getting a ticket. Does anyone [here] know of any good used CD/DVD stores? I went to a 1/2 price book store and found a $3 copy of Warpaint that I am going to pass along to a friend of my brother, as he showed a good parellel to my own music tastes. Here for another week. There are a number of entries in there now to get the ball rolling, but I'm sure there are others that I've missed, especially some of the smaller indies. Please give it a bookmark and feel free to add or update anything that may be on your musical radar. Hopefully with ongoing input from everyone this will become a useful resource for all to easily see at a glance what's coming up. http://ectoreleases.pbwiki.com Password for editing: collectiveheart Thanks to Karen Hester, whose "ectonyc" local gig wiki provided the inspiration and design template for this one. Enjoy :) Dan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Jul 2007 15:46:29 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: RE: EctoReleases wiki Thanks, Dan. This is great. I usually check http://www.newmusictipsheet.com/ for upcoming releases, but it's nice to have a page focused on ecto fare and lesser-known artists. I'm really excited to see that Jesca Hoop and KT Tunstall will have new albums out in September. BTW, let me mention that Kim Richey's _Chinese Boxes_ is fantastic, a really great blend of folk, country, and pop. The new Dresden Dolls DVD, released Tuesday, is another must-have for fans. If you are in Columbia, typically your best bet is to leave for entertainment. Baltimore and Washington and Arlington VA are all in your back yards and there are tons of great entertainment options there. That said, there are a few decent things. If the Zappa Plays Zappa tour was really in Columbia, it was at Merriwether Post Pavillion, which is a very nice outdoor amphitheater. During the summer, they have shows around the lake at the town center. Typically smallish artists, but we all know that there are some excellent ones of those. Finally, Daedulus has an outlet center off of Route 32 near ??? (Cherry Hill Road? Broken Land Parkway? I've been away from the area for a while.) Anyway, Daedalus is a great overstock book store. You can get AMAZING deals there. Some CD's too, but they aren't as notable on that front. There is (or used to be) a very good Indian restaurant near there too. Cheers, neal .
