It takes a lot, these days, but I'd like to nominate "These Are the Days" by 10,000 Maniacs, which always has me twirling around (at least, in my head) and opening myself up to the sky. Also, Meredith Meyer's "The Stars Kiss Me Goodnight". Today I listened to, um, "Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins for the first time in ages and I started to leap about a bit, or as much as I'm able. Subject: Music Question Moving to Texas Unlurking for music help. I'm going to be moving to Austin, Texas at the end of September. Does anybody know of any regular ecto venues or any kind of local music places (hopefully not country ecto music since I'm not a big country music fan)? I hear about all the local clubs that everybody goes to in their hometowns, and I get envious. Thanks for the help. :) Kristen ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2007 09:08:53 -0500 From: Doug Subject: Re: Who puts pep in your step? But there are other places in town that occasionally will bring in ecto-type artists as well (the coffeehouse Ruta Maya comes to mind). Stubbs' BBQ sometimes presents bigger shows of interest as well. Aside from that, Austin is *the* music town of Texas ... 6th Street is absolutely insane on a Saturday night. Be sure to check your local listings on a weekly basis. :) There is also an interesting house concert-type place called The Songwriters Series, which is a vibey outdoor stage in some guy's backyard where he brings in musicians to perform for a small live audience and (very) professionally records the audio and video for broadcast on his web site. He brings in some pretty interesting stuff that runs the gamut from country to folk to more ecto fare. (http://www.songwritersseries.com/) Enjoy Austin!! I love visiting there ... it's the only place in Texas I could ever imagine living in. (There are tons of *incredible* restaurants, too.) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2007 17:06:18 +0000 From: jjhanson@att.net Subject: Re: Who puts pep in your step?
