That way listeners can find out what that song was that they really liked and maybe even support the artist by purchasing it. This, in turn, allows the artist to release more material which in turn provides more music for the dj's to play. It's a symbiotic relationship. I was listening to some really nice stuff the other night on one of my favorite stations. After what I suspect was an hour long set the dj gave a station id and then resumed playing music; providing no clue as to what I'd heard . Later I went to the station's website and found whose timeslot it was. It belongs to a male dj but the voice had been female. I checked his playlist anyway only to find that it was last updated a year and a half ago. Not actually with a playlist but rather with a thank you to a fill in.That's music that will never be bought from artists that really need the sales. Dj's, you have a responsibility both to your listeners and to the artists without whom you would have no shows. If you agree, get the word out. And thanks for letting me vent. np: Flora Purim(she of the six, count 'em, six octave range)- Nothing will be as it was...tomorrow ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jul 2007 14:48:29 -0500 From: Carolyn Andre Subject: Re: a pet peeve At 02:26 PM 7/8/2007, bill wrote: >It occurs to me that one of the best ways to support independent music >is for dj's to back announce! Bill, I really agree with you! And you have my sympathies on your frustrated search . At least you weren't in your car at your destination and stayed sitting there with the radio on waiting for the back announce. Actually, that was one of the things I really liked about MTV and VH1 back when they actually had music programs with music videos. The music videos had artist/title information at the beginning and the end, so if I heard something I liked I could still figure it out. If you're not on the folk & radio dj mailing list, would you mind if I forwarded your email to that list? I think most of them - community or college stations - are pretty good about back announcing and updating their playlist info on their websites, but it would be a good reminder. But the serious question is truly *how to get the word out* to the rest of the radio world. I wonder if HD radio does this. I have ordinary, non-satellite/HD radio in my car, and for several (not all) local music stations, it displays the name of the artist & the song title in the dashboard display. This isn't my exact model car but this is similar to what the display looks like: http://us.autos1.yimg.com/img.autos.yahoo.com/ag/toyota_prius_4doorliftback_2007_dashboard_12_346x270.jpg Where it says "K-MOZART" in that pic, I see a scrolling display with the artist/title info. I love it, since as mentioned, most stations don't bother back announcing these days. - --Sue T. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jul 2007 22:24:44 -0400 From: DanStark <2005.carnivore99@verizon.net> Subject: Re: a pet peeve Look up the station on Yes.com, you might find what you're looking for if you know what time it was played.
