When, where, how long??? In Philly a Suite was secured, so there'd be space for people to be up all night talking about Happy, but, most folks crashed out us. 8-) I have to assume that even a cheap motorloge in that area in not going to be cheap. Eek, a room could cost more than the plane!!! bye, me KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!! Just when you think you've heard it all... I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for French singer Nolwenn Leroy (you may remember I mentioned her cover of "Running Up That Hill" a while back) when I noticed in the references at the bottom there were a couple of links to clinical trials. At first I thought someone had snuck a couple of spam links to 'cheap viagra' sites, but it turns out to be weirder than that. Apparently, listening to Nolwenn's music has been found to help prevent falls! There's an article about it here: http://www.stopfalls.org/news/february06.shtml ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2007 04:50:08 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Laura Veirs Unplugged Hi, This evening I was privileged to witness a very rare thing: Laura Veirs performing not only solo, but completely unplugged in as close to a house concert setting as you're going to see at this point. She headlined Night #2 of the "What You Got?" Festival at the Capitol Theatre in Olympia, WA. This festival is all about showcasing kid talent, with a film festival and art show and performances by all sorts of youth bands. The concerts each night are capped off with a few "pros", and tonight Rachael Sage performed right before Laura Veirs (hence my presence :). Laura was solo, and she had some problems with her guitar pickup so she just ended up sitting on the drum riser and inviting the audience to join her on and in front of the stage while she did her set 100% unplugged. The acoustics in the theater are amazing, so even if you weren't sitting right by her you could hear very well. It was incredible. I couldn't even begin to tell you what she played b/c my brain was too busy imploding ... I remember a few of my favorite songs from _Carbon Glacier_ and a bunch from her latest _Saltbreakers_, and she closed out with a great version of "Freight Train". (My brain really folded in upon itself when, in talking to her afterwards, I learned that she was good friends in college with my best friend's little brother. The world, it is just too damned small.) She said she and the Saltbreakers will be opening for The Decemberists' tour this fall, which she thinks comes to NYC in October. I really hope I'm around for that one. I bet she'll be plugged in for that, though ... oh well. ;) If any of you are within reach of Olympia, Jason Webley is tomorrow night's headliner. Think Tom Waits meets a subway-busking hobo. I wish I could stick around for that. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Jun 2007 21:54:33 -0600 From: neal copperman Subject: Passwords question Hey all, Sorry about the complete non-ecto content, but I think I read about this on this list before. Isn't there a web site you can go to for passwords that can be used on lots of free registration sites (like the New York Times). I had one in my browser for a long time for the Times but it seems to have been shut down and I was looking for another. Thanks! neal ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #169 ***************************
