They're 6 boys and play perfect pop songs, weird instrumentals, Americana touches, dreamy spacey sounds, loud wiggy rock and I love it all. I immediately ordered it online and have not heard it yet, but other Maria fans may be interested to know about it. It's called Late December and the Amazon review says it "might be best described as 'pop-ras,' miniature contemporary pseudo-operas sung in open-throated vibrato. "Destine" is a prime example, echoing Queen's "A Night at the Opera" with it's dramatic vocals and grandiose guitar solo" etc etc Todd Pierce Asheville, NC ____________________________________________________________________________________Ready for the edge of your seat? It was actually quite good. Haven't heard anything else off of the album though.** I actually have this record and I really like it. It's goofy, but because he had some really good songwriters helping him out, the songs are really good. It's not your everyday fare, but I happen to really enjoy it. I like to see the looks on people's faces when they are at my house and it's on and they realize who it is. - -- Amy Collected Sounds www.collectedsounds.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 May 2007 13:40:33 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: There's even a (non-cartoon) video You can find anything on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qE-lmUTA_w But where's Veronica and Betty? Then I did a little research and discovered the one factor unifying a whole set of disparate phenomena, the mastermind pulling the strings behind the scenes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Dante * Dante hit the U.S. Top Ten with the single "Tracy" [for the Cufflinks], at the same time that The Archies' "Sugar, Sugar" was at the top spot on the same chart. (Dante was anonymous on both tracks, as with all Archies and Cufflinks recordings). * In 1972, also under the supervision of [Don] Kirshner, Dante became lead vocalist for another cartoon group, The Chan Clan. * From 1973 to 1981, Ron Dante was the record producer for singer Barry Manilow. Dante often sang background vocals on Manilow's recordings, including the groundbreaking single "Mandy." (When I saw the video my mind immediately went to Barry Manilow. Maybe it was the hair.) * During this same period, Dante, who was a Manhattan neighbor of George Plimpton, was invited to serve as the publisher of the _Paris Review_. I have a dinky ADSL line, 640 kbps upload, and no monthly quotas. the audio is transcoded from FLAC into MP3 on the fly, so the line can handle 3-4 simultaneous listeners at 128-160 kbps. the server is an old piece of junk with a 600 MHz Pentium III and 4x300 GB in software RAID 5. the software I use is Ampache (http://www.ampache.org). it's very easy to install into an existing LAMP setup and gives a convenient web interface to all your music. the really neat thing about Ampache is that I can add my friends' servers, and get a transparent view of the complete collection. my streaming client simply won't show me if the music is coming from my server or someone elses, it's that slick. of course I can restrict a search to a specific server if I want to. - -- Kjetil T. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 May 2007 15:11:10 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: There's even a (non-cartoon) video Oh, and I forgot the ecto connection: The world really *is* bound by secret knots! Marketing Manager at Moog Music (www.moogmusic.com). Needless to say, I am very excited by this opportunity. I probably would not be a musician today if my 6th grade music teacher had not let the class listen to Switched-On Bach (played on Moog equipment). Some of you may know me from my recent work with acoustic Middle-Eastern instruments and may not be aware that I have been playing synths now for almost 30 years. Like most of you, I also have a day job. For the last 10 years or so, that has consisted of marketing high frequency (870 MHz) analog electronics for the cable television industry. I also have a background in electrical engineering. In the early 90's I did some printed circuit design work for Bob Moog (back in the Big Briar days) and another of my designs went up on a space shuttle. This background really helps me appreciate the top-notch engineering team at Moog. In working for this company, my vocation and avocation come together. I hope you all are lucky enough to achieve this type of synergy in your lives. Anyway. I'm curious. anyone know of any ecto-ish artists using Moog equipment?
