Kevin calls it a "rough mix". I call it brilliant! I am very excited to hear the new CD when it is completed. All the best! That is really nice. I've been missing that sound. It's also great to see what's in store -- looks like not only the new album _Glow In The Dark_ but also _Aural Gratification Vol. 3_? I remember hearing about all those albums Kevin had on cassette before 1990. The MySpace page has a listing: 1990 Thing Thang 1989 Spatial Thanx 1988 7 1987 Breadfeet 1986 Evocations 1985 Incantations 1985 Abberations 1984 Automations 1984 Deviations 1983 Rhinebeck Variations I remember asking Kevin about these and getting some kind of demurrer. Now that we're in the age of the mp3 I don't know if he'd reconsider issuing them, maybe in download-only form. It would be really nice. Wow. That's pretty awesome. Thanks for pointing it out, Bill! jeff (who will have to "settle" for taking _Near Life Experience_ to the office today since he clearly won't be taking the new album...) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 May 2007 05:55:51 -0700 (PDT) From: Craig Gidney Subject: Dwelling, Ainde de Noite Taking their sound from the mournful Portuguese musical form called fado, Dwelling"s second album Ainde De Noite is a darkly beautiful recording. Dueling classical guitars, swirling violin lines and the rich, honeyed voice of Catrina Raposo all create a mesmerizing atmosphere. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=851 19880 Blog: http://ethereal-lad.livejournal.com Music Blog: http://www.last.fm/user/ethereal_lad/ _____________________________________________________________________________ _______Give spam the boot. Stephan Kent is the world's best didg player as far as i am conserned and in the song "Every Stone's Dream" (CD is "Meanwhile"), Eda's voice is pure sexuality. just exquisite. i won't make it, of course, but if i was in the Bay Area, i sure as hell would try to. - ----------------------------------------------- Coming up THIS SATURDAY in the Starry Plough, 3101 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley 9pm sharp(!) I'm not sure if I've missed previous discussions on this, but does anyone else utilize http://www.Last.fm to find new music? After using Pandora for a while, I decided I enjoyed Last.fm's interact-more-with-other-users approach and have now focused primarily on using their (free) tools. I also like its integration with discovering music events based on previous playlists and recommendations (who knew that after using my ticket to catch Lisa Gerrard on Thursday night, I could go up the street to Foundation and hear Infected Mushroom?!). Feel free to add me as a friend if you're so inclined: StPLmbrjack is my username. I'd be interested in seeing what kind of recommendations bubble up as a result of a bunch of ectophiles banding together. (Admittedly, my scrobbled audio right now is a bit skewed towards Loreena McKennitt, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and other ambient/sleep-friendly artists since I leave iTunes running at night while I doze; scrobbling at night will cease now that I'm more familiar with how it all works.) Perhaps the fine folks who look after the Ectophile's Guide could implement some kind of feature that would allow us to post our usernames for such things (including MySpace, LiveJournal, et all) so we could find each other in various ways on various sites. Yes. At the MPress shindig she said that after a few short weeks she would be leaving New York City--I think she said she was moving to "the northeast," but it is the Boston area that she's going to. There's also an ecto community on last.fm. I'm self-referential enough to love seeing it make charts of my listening patterns, but I don't use it for a whole lot else.... I'd rather listen on Pandora, b/c I love that it's reccs are based on musical properties and characteristics instead of "people who listened to _____ also listened to _________." But I rarely do so, b/c I need to obsessive-compulsively research everything I hear, and generally don't have time for that.
