I'll be checking it out and figuring out how to contribute. I don't "do" blogs, so I missed this, although I'm supposed to be on the trajectory list, postings being few and far between. Everyone else: if you don't have, at least, either "You Do Not Live in this World Alone" or "Return of the Kildeer", I tell you your lives are the poorer for it. These are still among my favourite albums of all time, and if it was in my power, I'd buy copies of "Kildeer" for everyone (but it's not, so don't get your hopes up). I know I've said it before, but I just feel it bears repeating. Well, obviously. And, to hearken back to the the purpose of the ecto list in lieu of any Happy news, I owe ecto an everlasting debt of gratitude for introducing me to Veda, a great musician and a genuinely nice person. adam k. np: Return of the Kildeer by Veda (no, honest. It just seemed right) nr: Aberystwyth, Mon Amour by Malcolm Pryce (fiendishly funny and inventive, Chandleresque noir set in the Welsh seaside town, albeit with some alternative universe twists: Druids have achieved a Masonic-type presence, the Welsh have fought a Vietnam-like war in Patagonia in '61, and the narrator drowns his sorrows in an ice-cream parlour or hangs out at the all-night whelk stall. No idea where it's going, but it's good, good fun) - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 May 2007 06:55:52 -0400 From: "Paul Blair" Subject: Re: Bat for lashes in NY - fun live Much as I don't like Joe's Pub for more or less the reasons meth mentions, in general their set length is better than most of the little places, which schedule for an hour = 40 minutes + setup time. Joe's schedules for longer than an hour and usually gives you exactly an hour of music--but you better get your encore into that hour. And the eighteen-dollar hamburger is actually pretty good. :-) On 5/2/07, meredith wrote: > the wandering Karen Hester wrote: > > They played less than an hour! Work ethic, people! I'm not quite sure who they could have fought a Vietnam-like war against, though, since there's not much other population down there. And hardly a tree to hide behind. We are bringing the "New Arrivals" tour all over the country over the next couple months. All of the concerts are benefits for World Hunger Year, and at each one we will be collecting food for a local food bank (or in some cases, women's shelter). We're coming to Boston on May 13 (at the Paradise Lounge, featuring Edie Carey, divineMAGgees, Trina Hamlin, Natasha Alexandra, Rachael Sage, and a surprise special guest who I can promise is well known to ectophiles). Then we go to L.A. (Hard Rock Hollywood), San Francisco (Noe Venable headlines this one!), Chicago, and Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA. The complete details are at http://www.newarrivalscd.com/events.html. It'd be great to see some ectophiles along the way!! _New Arrivals: Vol. 2_ is on eMusic, went up on iTunes yesterday, and will be in stores next Tuesday. It's a compilation where nothing on it sucks, trust me. :) I particularly recommend checking out Kristy Kruger's track -- and then go get her whole album, _Songs From A Dead Man's Couch_. It's beautiful, twisted twangy darkness that should appeal to those who go for Neko Case and Kathleen Edwards, with a bit of Veda Hille thrown in. Hope to see some of y'all soon ... - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #112 ***************************
