Thanks. I didn't make it over to Zulu, and indeed didn't find too much obscure stuff at A&B, but at least I now have Dreaming Through the Noise for a reasonable price, and I picked up several DVDs I'd been looking for as well, so I consider my visit a success. :) (I even had a grand total of one sunny day during my stay in Vancouver, which I spent up on Grouse Mountain, so that was nice, too.) :) Kjetil Torgrim Homme wrote: > don't worry about buying online. make sure you use a credit card > rather than a debit card to reduce risk. *if* someone defrauds you, > you report the misuse within three months and VISA/MasterCard will > reverse the charges. it's nothing to worry about Direct monetary fraud is not something I worry about. Identity theft and privacy issues are. I'm a professional web application developer, with intimate knowledge of securing web sites, and a pretty good idea of the skills possessed by most other people developing and maintaining web sites, and I'd guesstimate that 90%+ of all websites out there are not doing enough to keep their data even reasonably secure 100% of the time (and then I'm not even talking about the backoffice companies responsible for things like hosting and processing the transaction). The funny thing about databases with privacy-sensitive information is, they never go away. Even if I trust the security of a site right now, I don't trust that during my lifetime that security will never lapse. So, thanks for the sentiment, but I'm not going to change my ways here. It will be reissued on Bongo Beat Records in Canada in March, with some additional tracks and as an enhanced CD, so it will also have the video for "The Sweater" on it. Birdie is Debsey Wykes from Dolly Mixture, one of the greatest English girl bands from the 70s ("How come you're such a hit with the boys, Jane" is one of my all time favourite songs), and Paul Kelley of Saint Etienne, where Debsey also has contributed vocals on many albums. it's actually quite hard to tell the difference between Saint Etienne and Birdie -- it's the same kind of understated pop, you could almost call it easy listening. great for a mellow night. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V13 #35 **************************
