Sounds intriguing: I'm particularly interested in this album because it's not the only record in a similar vein coming out around now. Susan Werner's new album, _The Gospel Truth_ comes out in a few weeks, and it's a collection of what she's termed "agnostic Gospel tunes" (though really more Bluegrass in style than Gospel, overall). She wrote the album not only to explore her own beliefs, but also as a response to the Religious Right and how it's running our country these days. I've heard a chunk of the tunes on it, and they're brilliant. I can't wait to hear the whole thing. (Susan's kicking off her CD release tour this weekend in Greenwich, CT; http://www.susanwerner.com for the complete tour listing.) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 14:29:33 -0800 (PST) From: Tim Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: Rickie Lee Jones, new albums, NPR pieces FRACK! I bought the Rickie Lee (special edition), Patty and Jesse and forgot to look for the Over the Rhine, which is obs one of the most important ones. The Patty Griffin is totes an example of when bad cover art happens to good people, which upsets me. Her work is so dynamic and should cross so many barriers of age and location, I hate to see her with an album cover that screams soccer mom at Borders. ~tim JoAnn Whetsell wrote: Craig Gidney wrote: Rickie Lee Jones, 70s cult singer-songwriter, has a new album out.
