It must be the season. We recently lost our 20-year-old cat, Zach. It's really rough not to have him around as he was with us for so long and it's difficult to imagine life without him. Just Friday, though, we adopted two kittens, who are prepared to torment our 7-year-old cat as she tormented Zach when she came into our lives. I will go hug Sophia and the two babycats (Atia? Titus? We're not sure yet. Yes, we've been watching _Rome_.) - --Neile At 12:02 AM -0500 1/29/07, meredith wrote: >Hi, > >F.J.Fornorn wrote: >I am sorry to say that Ponder, the editor's cat who makes his >obligatory cat picture appearance on the cover art of this 2001 >Tenth Anniversary Ecto commemorative, has passed away after a long >battle with intestinal and liver cancer. > >:( Aw, Fog, sorry to hear that. > >A couple weeks ago a similarly loved elder statescat, Taminy passed >away in Arizona, where he had made his home since 1992. It's quite sad to read about so many losses in the space of a year. We had a very bad time, losing two of our three cats in the space of 6 months. Cody passed after a brief illness where we discovered a huge abdominal tumor; we had barely begun to recover from that (and made plans to bring in a new kitten) when our alpha cat Boris went outside for his usual evening stroll and never returned. He was 14, and the cornerstone. Despite flyers, newspaper ads and much combing of the neighborhood, we haven't found him. We'd already decided we needed to bring a new kitten into the house, but focusing on her has kept us distracted during an otherwise unpleasant time. Some pictures: http://www.lindajdunn.com/cats/Ming.html Our thoughts are with all of you. - -----Original Message----- >From: Carolyn Andre >Sent: Jan 29, 2007 10:07 AM >To: ecto@smoe.org >Subject: Re: Dectopia, sad news > >Oh, my. Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2007 10:32:13 -0600 From: Lisa Subject: Happy's "soundtrack" songs It's a slow news day, so I thought I'd throw out a Happy Topic. Saturday night, I attended our local high school performance of the musical Jekyll and Hyde (mainly because my daughter is first violin in the pit orchestra). Wow! I was blown away by the level of talent especially by the kids who played Henry and Emma. The confrontation scene, where he turns from Jekyll to Hyde and back again several times in a matter of seconds was Broadway-worthy. When I got in my car to go home, I turned on my cd player only to find that I had been in the middle of listening to Happy's "Tragic" from MWABT. It was toward the end where she builds the chorus, and the lyric "...there's a little bit of me in you..." was the first thing I heard. As I listened to the remainder, it occured to me that this is the perfect song for Jekyll and Hyde. I've always thought that "The Flight" from Equipoise would have been marvelous in an Anne Rice movie, and I know we've had that discussion before. Happy writes many theme-specific songs (e.g. Phobos, Out Like A Lamb, Prey of the Strange). What songs would you pair with a scene from an existing movie, or even a book passage? Lisa PS...Vickie, I miss your posts. Hope all is well. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jan 2007 14:08:19 -0500 From: "Suzanne DeCory" Subject: RE: pet loss I am so sorry to all who have their lost beloved pets :( I too, lost my cat, Sam of 14 years, on January 2nd of this year. It was (and still is) one of the hardest things I have ever been through emotionally. It still comes in waves. In fact, this morning I got teary once again remembering how he used to wake me up with his little head purring nudge... I miss it, and him so much! I have 2 friends as well that lost their aging cats this month. Sadly, seems January 2007 was the month for a lot of us. If you have time, you should check out www.petloss.com. You can add their names to the Rainbow Bridge list, which I did for Sam. You can also take part in the Candle Ceremony if you'd like. People from all over the world gather in remembrance in the chatroom and light three candles and send prayers every Monday night at 10:00 pm. It takes about 15 minutes and all chat is stopped for the moderator and poems. Last week it was the most I had seen: 130 people! I've been doing it every Monday since Sam passed. And will in fact, be there again tonight as well. Just make sure you have some Kleneex in the ceremony though. The really poems tug on your heart. There are some really nice people there, all going through what we are going through. I also just recently bought a great book: Animals and the Afterlife by Kim Sheridan. I highly recommend it. It's helped me quite a bit actually, among a few others. I have one kitty left, April, who is 11, and gave her a great big hug for Ponder. I will also light my second candle for Ponder tonight as well. Hang in there. The waves do slow. {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}} Suzanne (email filtered and set to exclusive contacts) To get the full value of a joy, you must have somebody to divide it with (Mark Twain). Kurt Cobain is the 12th greatest guitarist of all time??? That itself should invalidate this list. And I love the Ramones, but Johnny Ramone is the 16th greatest guitarist (of all time!), while Pete Townshend is #50?!?! Again, what a joke. But then, Rolling Stone has been a joke itself for a long, long time, and this list just confirms that. That, and the fact that Greg Ginn is on the list at all! From the first Black Flag album to the last, Ginn's playing has always reminded me of a kid who just got a guitar and is trying it out to see what kind of noises it can make. How he got this reputation as a guitar god is beyond me. His playing sounds quite ordinary to me. Obviously, this list was made by somebody just naming the guitarists of his/her favorite bands.
