And, yes, if you include classical, world and other genres, keep on going. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 09:03:40 +0000 From: adamk@zoom.co.uk Subject: Top 100 Guitarists? Oh, yet another "top whatever" list... Sometimes I think they do these just to stir things up, and this one definitely will. I mean, apart from everyone chipping in with their missing faves (I would definitely put in a vote for not only Steve Hackett, but also Leo Kottke and Roye Albrighton of Nektar) but also...well, I'm no guitarist, no muso, all my attempts to master any sort of instrument have failed, but I have to say...Kurt Cobain as one of the best guitarists? As a musician/singer/songwriter/mover & shaker, I admire him, absolutely, but I'd sooner put Hackett or Albrighton up there as guitarist. Similarly, while I'd never dispute Joni Mitchell's place in the music pantheon, I'm not sure she belongs up there as one of the great guitarists. I could go on, but it's too cold, and I'm sure others will. I'm perfectly happy to be proven wrong, but does anybody get that feeling? Or am I just falling into the trap the compilers wanted? adam k. - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 09:42:13 -0500 (EST) From: Bernie Mojzes Subject: Re: Top 100 Guitarists? i think my moment of disillusion was when geddy lee won "best keyboards" in some awards ceremony or other for _moving pictures_. well... one of my moments of disillusion... brni > Oh, yet another "top whatever" list... > > Sometimes I think they do these just to stir things up, and this one definitely > will. I have heard him with several different groups [UK, Bill Bruford, etc] and he was great. I have heard several solo discs and found them wanting. He really knows how to add to a good mix but comes up a bit short on writing his own stuff. Bye, me KrW I'm Peter Pan! I'm perpetually young!! OW!!
