I thought some of you might like her. I think she sounds pretty cool! Below is the bio they sent me and here's her MySapce page for music samples: www.myspace.com/rachelzamsteen Here's her site: http://rachelzamsteen.com/ (music plays there too) ~Amy Producer, Collected Sounds www.collectedsounds.com www.blog.collectedsounds.com Rachel Zamsteen On Target with This Gun Video Close your eyes and let the music sweep you away. From first note to last, Rachel Zamsteen takes you on a soulful musical journey. A multitalented musician and songwriter who is not afraid to stray from the norm, Rachel zigzags her way across a landscape that is equal parts jazz, blues, folk and, of course, rock. Dont be fooled by her innocent smile she has combined the sensibilities of many artists her senior and written well beyond her 21 years. On her debut album Bouquet (notpop records), Rachel Zamsteen brings a musical depth far beyond that of her pop counterparts. As a person who has lived life as both a nice and bad girl , I can honestly say that I've felt more rewarded when I acted out in a rebellious way or did things simply to obtain attention, says Rachel. Essentially, I almost always received the desired outcome when I acted like I didn't care and behaved in a way which might dictate that I think highly of myself and less of others, she reveals. Yet in reality, that personality was learned and in a big way was a coping system and/or defense mechanism. Regardless, its a way to get by, but not the way to thrive. If, as a society, we accept a more relaxed outlook on life, I think we'd all be able to be kinder people. On the song This Gun, Rachel croons Come over here boy, Ive got something for ya.Its this gun in your mouth, that says youre gonna do some listening now and paints a lyrical picture of old-time jazz greats. The video has been steadily receiving rotational adds across the country, placing Rachel on charts alongside, and often ahead of, such already established acts as Incubus, Tokyo Rose, Meg & Dia and Halifax. A native of Connecticut, Rachels hometown newspaper, the Hartford Advocate, describes her as a mix of Debbie Harry in her prime with a dash of Lydia Lunch's violence. And while on Bouquet, you may not hear punk rock anthems or feedback-laden tracks with thunderous drums of doom, you will feel the power and influence of Nirvana within her emotional words and delivery. After relocating to Asbury Park, New Jersey this year, Rachel quickly made herself a household name and earned Best Female Vocalist" and Best Female Solo" nominations at the Asbury Park Music Awards. Even with the acclaim, Rachel, who has been schooled in the styles of Mozart, Beethoven, Charlie Parker since the age of two, isnt in this for the glory. I try to write songs for the people whose voices are less likely to be heard. Thats true rock in my opinion, because who is a rockstar without their fans? Rachels as honest as they come. On Drought, she reveals I burn the piano with a cigarette; I havent been able to stop smoking yet. Yet, today she is excited to say she has quit all vices and finds Its a new found freedom and joy for me to live life without using substances to make things better. Though shell continue to raise eyebrows experimenting with her appearance and wildly flinging herself across the stage, once things for sure. You wont be able to take your eyes-or ears-off her. While her calendar fills up with gigs from New York to Stockholm in support of Bouquet, this is just the beginning of the journey. www.myspace.com/rachelzamsteen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Dec 2006 08:09:09 +1100 From: andrew fries Subject: Re: Heroes Greg Bossert wrote: > On Nov 29, 2006, at 6:17 PM, Kim Justice wrote: >> On 11/7/06, dan st ark <2005.carnivore99@verizon.net> wrote: >>> No music content, but has anyone else been following Heroes on >>> NBC? I'm a very recent convert, in fact I only learned about Heroes earlier this week. Luckily torrents are still well seeded so I was able to download the entire season with no trouble. I would be more excited about presence of Wendy & Lisa if I knew who they were... I mean, now I know who they are, but only because I googled them! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2006 22:00:43 +0000 From: jjhanson@att.net Subject: Was Heroes (now Wendy and Lisa) Perosonally I love Wendy and Lisa's self-titled release, which included some great songs. I was much less impressed with their follow-up--Fruit at the Bottom, or the album released under the name Girl Bros. In fact, I just got rid off my copy of Girl Bros. via a LaLa.com trade. I never owned a copy of Eroica--anyone want to comment on that? Was watching 'Bones' tonight on Sky1 (I find I can like the show as long as I don't think about the books by Kathy Reichs since the books/show are so different), and I was intrigued by the song at the end of it. It's the episode "The Boy in the Shroud" that aired in the US on 13 September. (We're getting episodes of some shows earlier than usual; Sky's spent a lot of money.) Anyway, I was so intrigued by the song that I did some searching and discovered it's 'Bring on the Wonder' by Susan Enan, who now lives in New York City after years in Northern Ireland. Apparently, she's opened for Tom MacRae, among others. The song from 'Bones' will be on a CD coming out next year. So, anyone know more about her? Seen her live? Ellen "Literature stops in 1100. I loved their debut, particularly "Waterfall," which I think is transcendent. Like Jeff, I was less impressed with Fruit at the Bottom. However, I think Eroica is a masterpiece. Psychedelic, melodic, intricate. rather amazing. I was fortunate enough to see them live on the Eroica tour and was utterly blown away. They are such masterful musicians. That said, I found Eroica to be more like Girl Bros. than their debut, so it's possible if you weren't a fan of Girl Bros. (which I also loved) you might not like Eroica as much. I'd still say it's worth a listen. It's one of my favorite albums. Michael n.p. I'd Rather Go Blind by Robin Lane & the Chartbusters Michael R.
