Best approach? Um, not to cause any trouble, but I use FrontPage for my site. I just always check to see if it looks okay in FireFox, since that's my browser of choice. As to "dirty" code, well, I don't know if you mean "takes longer to load"? Here is my site. Maybe not the fanciest, but I don't use a lot of frames. In fact, only one section has frames. http://www.bookmice.net/fleur/ - --fleur On 11/28/06, Michael Pearce wrote: > > At 1:55 AM -0500 11/28/06, "Xenu's Sister" wrote: > > >I have access to CUTEhtml (my primary html program, but you have to > >do css by hand), FrontPage > >(which I've barely used), TopStyle (I've never used it, but it seems > >cool), Expressions (which > >I've never used but it seems cool too) and UltraEdit (which I > >mention mainly because I do most of > >my html coding by hand in it). > > Please please don't use FrontPage. The only thing I use it for ever is to update the table of fans on Happy's MySpace page. I like the Design mode for that. Otherwise, it never gets opened. I just thought I'd mention it as an option. > There is no advantage to trying to force a web site to exactly > resemble a print publication; but if you use a page-layout program > that has the option of creating PDFs, you can assemble your OCR'd > text and images into a dupe of the original magazine and PDF that. The fellow who came up with the nice css did what I hadn't thought possible, he made a web page that *looked* like a pdf. Here's what he came up with. Note: these are the ONLY two pages up and they're not final versions. I just put them up temporarily for demonstration purposes. This goes to the first two pages of the *second* issue of Rhodeways. (I need to take off the "Previous" button) http://wretchawry.com/happy/terra/rhodeways02_01.html There are a few things I'd like to tweak. I'd like the name Rhodeways to be a bit bigger, and Summer '94 & the page number to be on different lines, perhaps different Previous and Next icons. Anyone have links to some that might work better? Just to give people an idea of what I'm working toward... Here is the (unfinished, because I want to add bookmarks and OCR the text if possible) pdf for the *first* issue of Rhodeways: http://wretchawry.com/happy/terra/Rhodeways_Issue01_Spring94.pdf Here is the link to the images of the first issue: http://wretchawry.com/happy/terra/Rhodeways01Spring1994/ I need two front pages, one for the MAIN front page that lists all the issues and give links to the html page, the pdfs and the image pages, and a template for each individual front page that I can use for all 12 issues. You all know I suck at design worse than that thing that killed Gollum in King Kong, so, any volunteers? :) It just needs to be simple, clean, easy to navigate and complementary to the general style of the fanzine. Glad I'm not the only late convert to Joanna Newsom. At first I couldn't stand her voice. The new album gives it great context to work in. Austria's Zeebee deserves attention from ectronic fans..her prioroties has neat Bjorky electronica and a weird version of a tisket a taket. I downloaded the zip version(link under the big button) opened the zip file and copied the folder in it to my hard drive, I can put it where I want it, and if I want to get rid of it I just delete the folder.. gone. She just makes wonderful contemporary pop-tinged folk music, and she keeps getting better. Highly recommended. The Be Good Tanyas - Hello LoveI loved Blue Horse but took a while to warm up to Chinatown. Now along comes Hello Love, which might be their finest album yet. There's a certain intensity that I haven't heard from them before, and they make melancholy sound so sweet. I could have done without the blues track in the middle and without the cover of "When Doves Cry" (surprisingly, I rather like the instrumental on that one), but other than that, this is 5 stars all the way. Kris Delmhorst - Strange ConversationPoetry set to contemporary music ranging from folk to honky tonk to New Orelans jazz. Surprising and wonderful.
