I remember reading the reviews of her last album and asking this list if anyone had heard of her, and the reaction was, at the time, generally negative, and I gave it a pass. However, after reading the tenth ecstatic review of "Ys", I've decided to take a chance and have ordered it, more out of duty (what kind of music fan would I be to ignore this?) and with a slight sense of dread (can anything meet those sort of expectations?) but your review made me feel a little better and a little bit more prepared. REM has an interesting bunch of Christmas songs, and The Arrogant Worms have one that's quite amusing. I love the suggestions everyone's been sending in -- might have to make up a new compilation. Happy holidays -- whatever they are! The first includes some classic performances from our ecto-buddy Cyoakha. The 2nd continues with the "Xmas in a minor key" motif to excellent effect. The first time I heard their take on "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer", I was literally rolling on the floor laughing. Imagine that Grandma is your most favoritest relative ever, and the subject horrible tragedy has befallen. That's how this version goes, slow and melancholy. The contrast between what you remember of the original and this interpretation will tear your heart out. You can apparently still buy 'em at altared.com. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Nov 2006 20:05:51 -0600 From: "Kim Justice" Subject: Re: Xmas songs that don't suck A few years ago, I asked this list for Christmas music suggestions that wouldn't make me tear my hair out. The Projekt "Excelsis" series was suggested (by I forget whom, sorry) and the set remains a favorite: . The link is for the 3-CD boxed set or you can buy the CDs individually. kj - -- Kim Justice justicekw@gmail.com "There can always be new beginnings -- even for people like us." - -- Susan Ivanova ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #313 ***************************
