This coming Tuesday, Lindi Ortega will be playing a 7pm set at The Bitter End. She has a new album to promote, her first since The Taste of Forbidden Fruit back in 2002 when she just called herself Lindi. As far as I know this is her first time playing in NY (we've been waiting for a while!) -- so it would be great to see some Ectophiles come out and help support her since I'm sure her fan base in this area is otherwise pretty nonexistent. Leif and I will also be heading over Caffe Vivaldi tomorrow (Sunday) to see Laura Tsaggaris @ 7:30. Laura's Proof album remains one of our favorites from over the past year and she's a terrific live performer. Hope to maybe see some of you there. :) Dan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 11:07:42 -0600 From: "Collected Sounds" <2345@collectedsounds.com> Subject: RE: an old topic - $5 special recommendations at cdbaby? I bought some stuff at that sale awhile ago too. I *also* wanted Arlene Bishop's CD but it wasn't on the Fiver sale. I ended up buying it anyway a few days later. :) I got Jennifer Lee - Beyond the Frame (if you don't like Tori likenesses, run away fast. She sounds spookily like her--but I love it.) Lisa Fraser - Midday Songs folky pop if I remember right.... I also got (but am not sure they were in the $5 sale): Carla Ulbrich - Her Fabulous Debut (kind of funny folk pop, similar to Christine Lavin but not as good...but who is?) Jami Stellini - The Difference (really good) Angela Ortiz - All About You (super super good...my fave of the bunch) and then I got that Arlene Bishop one. Hope that helps. Sorry I can't give better descriptions. I haven't listened to them too much (or any other purchased music for that matter) because I've been buried in submission CDs. I will however tell you about what I think may end up being my VERY FAVORITE CD of the whole dern year....(drum roll please) Rivers of Stars by Andrea Perry...it's perfect. I am obsessed with it. I think it's on CD Baby too. Oh and Gregory Douglass has a new CD out and it's his best (IMHO). If you all don't know him you should definitely check him out. He's VERY Ecto and loves and is inspired by all the ladies we adore. That's all for now. :D ~A - -----Original Message----- From: owner-ecto@smoe.org [mailto:owner-ecto@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Damon Sent: Friday, November 10, 2006 11:52 AM To: ecto Subject: an old topic - $5 special recommendations at cdbaby? hi folks - does anyone have any current $5 specials to recommend from cdbaby? i've (belatedly) fallen in love with gabriela kulka and one of hers is a $5 disc... so now looking for two more i don't already own, to round it out! i'd list the ones i've already purchased but i've no idea anymore... still, any recommendations? if not, i can always fill out the order with a copy of arlene bishop's _cut a man's heart out_ for a friend (have i mentioned everyone should check her out?), and... well, surely someone can help me find *one* other $5 cd to buy? :) - -damon - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < - -- No virus found in this incoming message. I second this, particularly for all those who are into Rufus Wainwright -- though Gregory also has some guitar-based stuff (particuarly on his earlier albums), so it's not all gay-boy-with-piano. :) I just saw Gregory perform last week, as part of the MPress Records CMJ Showcase (along with Natasha Alexandra and wossername, oh right, Rachael Sage ;). He's the real deal, not to mention a really sweet guy. Definitely worth checking out. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:29:09 -0500 From: Timothy Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: [Fwd: Tune in for the Mila Drumke Band, tonight on WFUV!] ...Vin Scelsa used to run the jazz band at my high school. Just guessing, but since Portuguese is a Romance language it's likely that "amamos" means "I love it" ... but again, I don't know Portuguese so I'm just pulling this out of the recess of my brain where my high school Latin fled the day I graduated... :) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #301 ***************************
