Production values and song choice is much more modern than the review would imply. Its a little hit or miss as I don't agree with several of their choices (timing, instrumentation), and I don't think the album as a whole will have much staying power, but its really a very pleasant listen through, and there are several of the songs that are just well done dittys :) personally I liked their rendition of 'wuthering heights'. far less angsty than Kate's version ;) Yet-another-cover of 'Sway' (yes that one) was really unnecessary, especially when done poorly, and while I give them points for trying 'Heart of Glass', I'm don't think they succeeded in marrying New Wave with Old School. i'd suggest you try it - and then read this scathing review and have a giggle : http://www.stylusmagazine.com/reviews/the-puppini-sisters/betcha- bottom-dollar.htm > > Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 16:09:53 +1300 > From: "Karen Hester" > Subject: Wuthering heights fails to swing > > The album *Betcha Bottom Dollar* by the Puppini Sisters, from > Amazon UK: > "Their close, three-part harmonies are reminiscent of the vocal > groups of > the 1930s and 1940s, and particularly the Andrews Sisters. Well? Anything you've always wanted to ask Happy? I can't promise they'll be asked, but I can pass them along to the person doing the asking. This is for an interview that won't appear anywhere until the album gets released (let's hope your great-grandkids have been passed along your love of Happy's music). It's not one I'm doing, and it's not for a major you-will-have-heard-of-it magazine. Reply to this and keep the Subject line so I can sort and have all the questions in one place.
