Another Kind of Fire, that actually came out 3 weeks ago. Samples sound strong. It's available at CDBaby, so I thought I'd pass the news along in case anyone else didn't know. JoAnn I need to pick up a copy myself, but I had a chance to hear it a few weeks ago and it is indeed quite good. If you like what Edie's been doing, you'll like this. There are some stunningly good songs on it. Also, while we're discussing this genre I can say with 100% certainty that Melissa Ferrick's upcoming new release is going to kick ass. Just sayin'. :) - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2006 21:07:58 -0400 From: wojbearpig Subject: in my dream since some folks on siblings were interested in a recording of jane siberry's "in my dream", i obliged ... and tossed in "hockey" performed with the zambonis for fun as well. figured some ectophiles might enjoy these as well. wheeee! woj - ----- Forwarded message from wojbearpig ----- Date: Thu, 12 Oct 2006 20:26:02 -0400 From: wojbearpig To: siblings@smoe.org Subject: in my dream Organization: smoe ok, found the minidisc from the december 2004 acoustic cafe show here in connecticut and did a quick dump of "in my dream" plus "hockey" performed with the zambonis. download away at http://www.smoe.org/woj/janemp3/ and if you feel like you should, send a little dosh sheeba's way as a thank you. enjoy! woj - ----- End forwarded message ----- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 14:26:37 +1300 From: "Karen Hester" Subject: Boyband at #1 Stupid but amusing news from New Zealand, stolen from stuff.co.nz : * *"Boyband, a pop group created by radio station The Edge, have entered the New Zealand charts at No. 1 with their debut single You Really Got Me. [yes, a cover] The band - consisting of Hot Boy, Bad Boy, Mummy's Boy, Fat Boy and Gay Boy - - were created after nationwide auditions. They have a record deal with Warners Music. They beat international acts like Justin Timberlake and Fergie to the top spot. The Edge programme director Leon Wratt said the radio station was "surprised and proud". "We never thought that we could bring five unknown Kiwi boys together and within two weeks debut them at number one." Boyband are on a nationwide tour, called their Farewell World Tour." ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 16:09:53 +1300 From: "Karen Hester" Subject: Wuthering heights fails to swing The album *Betcha Bottom Dollar* by the Puppini Sisters, from Amazon UK: "Their close, three-part harmonies are reminiscent of the vocal groups of the 1930s and 1940s, and particularly the Andrews Sisters. But rather than sounding like an anachronism, the Puppini Sisters merely demonstrate the timelessness of some of these songs. *Betcha Bottom Dollar* is fresh, fun and vibrant, blowing the dust off of cobwebby classics like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Mr Sandman". Elsewhere, they also put their own unique stamp on more recent hits, with varying results. While Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" and Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" fail to get things swinging, Blondie's "Heart of Glass" and The Smiths' "Panic" are both injected with a fresh new (old?) sound." http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FDFKEI/ref=ase_wellingtoncit-21 Blimey.
