Vickie" That was great, Vickie! It does beg the question (and you've probably answered it before, but I'm too lazy to look in the archives), who slipped you that first cassette of ECTO that started it all? It was so amazing to hear you mentioning this new discovery, Happy Rhodes. To hear you say that you knew nothing about her and asking for anyone with information to give you a call was so weird. A pre-Happy Vickie? It's like time-travelling. And you are much to hard on yourself regarding your broadcasting abilities. Your voice is lovely, and there was none of this massive stumbling and bumbling you always describe. Just a genuine person speaking to eager listeners. Thanks for the memories! (I know, I know, how could we lose it in the first place...I still don't know how that happened) It's very short, 1:28, but this is proof that it really did happen. http://wretchawry.com/happy/rarities/CharlotteMartin_100Years.mp3 (256 Kbps, 2,754 KB) http://wretchawry.com/happy/rarities/CharlotteMartin_100Years.wav (16,513 KB) http://wretchawry.com/happy/rarities/CharlotteMartin_100Years.ogg (350 Kbps, 3,795 KB) Unfortunately I had to fade it out because the wonky-assed battery in the camcorder died and it abruptly cut off Char going into "Steel." Damn shame too, because it was quite wonderful. I can't wait to see her in Chicago again the 15th. I heart CharMar. Thanks, Vickie! That's totally cool. Two things come to mind: a) I love the synth arrangement she's playing; it *really* makes it sound like a Charlotte Martin song and not just a cover b) I'd still rather see Happy perform it! Still, great to have, and I still hope to hear Charlotte cover Happy live sometime (last time we saw her in the DC area, she basically apologized to me for not singing 100 Years). Unfortunately, the timing of her _Stromata_ release show at Jammin' Java makes it iffy we'll get to go. jeff ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Sep 2006 20:33:52 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Re: SIG - --- Lisa wrote: > Vickie sniffs: http://www.wretchawry.com/happy/rarities/SIGKC_HistoryOfHappy.mp3 > > I do love Happy Rhodes. > That was great, Vickie! Thank you, more than you know. You just saved that montage. Really, it was close. I was beginning to get an "embarrassed silence" vibe, like what (I thought) happened with my SIG 8 talking (which is now erased). I was getting ready to not only take it down, but to destroy it completely. Have I mentioned lately that I have an irrational inferiority complex a mile wide? > It does beg the question (and you've probably > answered it before, but I'm too lazy to look > in the archives), who slipped you that first > cassette of ECTO that started it all? It was due to two fellow Kate Bush fans, with songs stuck on the end of cassette dubs of 2 Annette Peacock albums as filler. The story is on my MySpace page in one of the blogs: http://www.myspace.com/equipoise It all comes back to Kate Bush, why we're all here. I found her through other Kate Bush fans, I pushed her on other Kate Bush fans, who started and populated Ecto. And Happy learned how to sing by singing along to Kate Bush, and she discovered Kate Bush via a Kate Bush fan in England, who was her pen pal. Kate. God. Kate. Wow. > It was so amazing to hear you mentioning this new > discovery, Happy Rhodes. I barely remember life without Happy myself. > And you are much to hard on yourself regarding your > broadcasting abilities. When I'm "up" I think that way too, but when I'm down, everything I do is shit. I like being up because that allows me to appreciate how much fun it all was, like I did the other day when I put this online, and not think about how awful I think it might be and want to destroy it. I am so flaky and needy, it's really very pathetic. > Thanks for the memories! You're welcome and thank you!
