(Who isn't he?) Wow, finding out he opened for Happy really gives me that "small world" feeling... Now, I was at Happy's 1998 concert at the Troy Music Hall (I won the *Timelapse* game that was hidden under my seat) and I don't remember any opener either. But a visit to Rhodeshows.com references another Troy show in October of 1996, which I didn't attend. Surely that's the one you're referring to? > Hi, He opened for Happy at The Troy Concert in (1996-7-8?). I was >schmoozing and missed buying his CD. Wild wonderful guitar work. Seems like I've been bombarded with world music and folk/acoustic lately, so it's nice to have some of these to mention. Hazy Days by Equation (on Putamayo from 1998) I never heard of these guys. Very classy British folk rock. Some of the tracks remind me of something, but I'm not sure what. Maybe October Project? That doesn't seem quite right. Perhaps closer to, say, Sixpence None The Richer. Anyway, lead singer Kathryn Roberts has a great voice and the songs are all well-crafted. They have that immediately familiar and comfortable feeling, but still seem new and fresh enough to be interesting. Kathryn used to play with Kate Rusby, who I somehow completely missed. But I've been listening to her 1998 release "Hourglass" (same time as Equation) and it is perhaps my favorite new (to me) CD this year. On a more raucous level, I'm pretty smitten with Stairs and Elevators by Heartless Bastards, an Ohio band oddly on Fat Possum Records. Garage Rock more akin to a roughed up Pretenders or Four Non-Blondes, with a strong pop undercurrent. Very catchy. And on the lush side, The Endless is waiting for Craig to review them :) (Given my track record, there is a good chance he reviewed their early ep's and I just missed it.) They site Kate, Poe, Tori, Jane and This Mortal Coil as their influences. While fantasy elements and books color the lyrics or the song concepts, the writing is surprisingly direct. Ethereal, layered music with real melodies that sneak through and catch your attention. I'd think a lot of folks here would be into it. www.theendlessband.com neal np: Uncle Earl Live ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 8 Jul 2006 23:58:31 -0400 From: kerrywhite@webtv.net (kerry white) Subject: Re: Who is Richard Leo Johnson?
