Yikes, Charlie Drake! Now, that's a blast from my childhood past. Last seen doing blue panto somewhere. For those who don't know: Charlie Drake (and I'm assuming it's the same one!) was a British comic who triumphed on radio and tv in the 60s and even made a handful of films with his "little man" persona and wavering panic-stricken voice. He also had a number of novelty singles to his name, although I often confuse him with others around at the time. I believe he did "Where's Me Shirt?", "Mr Custer" ("Please, Mr Custer, I don't wanna go-oh-whoahwhoah") and "My Boomerang Won't Come Back" and, yes, we actually listened to things like that in the days before ecto and cable tv. His fall from grace was sudden, and an industrial dispute saw him fade from view almost overnight. Otherwise, he'd be up there with Frankie Howerd and Norman Wisdom. Ah, the fickle finger of fame. As a side note, one of his latter appearances was playing Smallweed in the 1985 TV production of "Bleak House", starring Diana Rigg. Can I just ask, please, as long as the finale for Six Feet Under is under discussion that nobody give out any spoilers? The channel that showed it over in the UK, Channel 4, have decided not to show the final season on terrestrial TV, but restrict it to one of their digital channels. As we don't get digital, this is something of a blow. When I asked them why, they replied that the viewing figures didn't justify them showing it on terrestrial. They've done the same thing to "The West Wing", but after playing hide-and-seek with that in the terrestrial schedules for months I'm not surprised viewing figures dropped. Mind you, when you've got as many mind-numbing hours of "Big Brother" to cram in as they obviously have, then it must be hard to find space to please everyone. Jeez, I don't half go on, don't I? adam k. - ----------------------------------------------- This mail sent through http://webmail.zoom.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 10:45:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Bernie Mojzes Subject: Re: Charlie Drake (So off-topic it defies belief)/SFU while extremely confused, you said: > Can I just ask, please, as long as the finale for Six Feet Under is under > discussion that nobody give out any spoilers? The channel that showed it over you want six feet under spoilers? well.... ok. the episode starts with the martians landing and setting a herd of cows on fire. after that, jack nicholson decides that he's going to make friends with the martians. twice. this goes about as well as can be expected, and congress is destroyed. michael j. fox dies unaccountably heroicly. and grandma's cowboy yodeling music saves the day. in the end, princess leia kisses our hero at the grand victory celebration, as she gives him the medal of honor. hth - -- brni i don't want the world, i just want your half. www.livejournal.com/~brni ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 10:48:21 -0400 From: wojbearpig Subject: Re: Charlie Drake (So off-topic it defies belief)/SFU one time at band camp, Bernie Mojzes (brni@kappamaki.com) said: >you want six feet under spoilers? well.... ok. >the episode starts with the martians landing and setting a herd of cows on >fire. after that, jack nicholson decides that he's going to make friends >with the martians. twice. this goes about as well as can be expected, >and congress is destroyed. michael j. fox dies unaccountably heroicly. >and grandma's cowboy yodeling music saves the day. in the end, princess >leia kisses our hero at the grand victory celebration, as she gives him >the medal of honor. sit ubu sit. good dog. +w ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 10:18:32 -0500 From: Timothy Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: If you had to choose - which Sia Also, I think "Six Feet Under" used a different version than is on "Colour the Small One." I've had "Colour the Small One" for awhile, but still haven't gotten into it. There's something about her voice that's just a little bit too affected for me. tim On 6/28/06 4:23 PM, "andrew fries" wrote: > JC Kammerzell wrote: >> For those of you who own both of these, if you were to buy a copy of Sia's >> "Breathe Me", which album would you buy: >> >> "Colour the Small One" by Sia >> >> or >> >> "Six Feet Under, Everthing Ends" - soundtrack > > I was in the same boat, finding out about Sia's existence through her > contribution to SFU (yes, wasn't that finale amazing!?
