I just finished watching the final episode the series Six Feet Under. I love this series. I mean... brill. My mother died in December 2005, and walking through the grief of that has been a scary, rich, beautiful thing. And here I am sitting on my couch, crying, as I watch the final episode of Six Feet Under, mourning each character's death, so grateful for this wonderful series. I will be purchasing the soundtrack, mostly for Sia's "Breathe Me". It's continuing to haunt me, as is the final 5 minutes of the show. Which I've now watched 3 times. It hit me the other day, that I used to meet up with ectophiles in whatever city I lived in, but haven't done that yet in Atlanta. So are there any ectophiles in the Atlanta area who want to meet up? ==> Valerie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 10:52:43 -0700 From: brian@mooman.com Subject: Chicago ectophiles? Valerie's post reminded me of a favor that I (well, actually my wife) could use from an ectophile in the Chicago area.. In August, my wife and daugther are planning on driving to Chicago and catching a train there to come visit me in Portland, then later returning there and driving back home (in Missouri). The request is if anyone would be able to offer some reasonably safe parking for her car while she's away? It's looking like the trip may be around the 7th to 25th of August, which would cost a lot in a garage, so I hoping maybe a generous ectophile has a parking space (either close to transit or perhaps help with a drop off/pickup if that's an option) and could volunteer it. Anyway, we figured if there's anyone we trust, it's an ectophile, so drop me a line if you might be able to help. Thanks! brian the mooman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 10:58:56 -0700 From: Steve VanDevender Subject: Atlanta ectophiles? I thought you were the only ectophile who lived there at the time. Although I think a couple other nearby ectophiles also joined us one of those years. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 11:40:00 -0700 From: Damon Subject: DarkBlueWorld hi folks - a local vancouver artist i've admired for a long time just released a cd with her current band. i thought some of you might be interested. i've loved elizabeth fischer's raspy voice and dark style ever since i stumbled across _a fine end_ from her former band, animal slaves, back in my uni days. since then i've been in touch with her a couple of times (she found my ectoguide entry for _a fine end_). i know she's been recording and playing in the intervening years, but without `physical' releases, so this cd is a wonderful new development. there are some samples up at http://www.myspace.com/darkblueworldca - it seems more accessible than the animal slaves release, and it might appeal to some of you - check it out! i know i'll be picking up the cd. elizabeth also has an archive of mp3s from old animal slaves releases and solo stuff at http://www.monkey-boy.com/efish/ - -damon - ----- Forwarded message from ef ----- Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 10:19:54 -0700 From: ef my band DarkBlueWorld's CD just got released... yay anyways... i'm totally thrilled, i am. cause, you know, a cd. on an actual label. oke, a very small label... oke, the label of a friend of ours, jesse zubot... who is a really great musician, btw. violin. oke, a musical god in fact, the only kinda gods i will admit to... the label is Drip Audio: http://www.dripaudio.com and look, there we are! wheeeeeeeee! ... and this is our very first review (from the vancouver province, june 27, 2006): =========== "DARKBLUEWORLD: DarkBlueWorld Proof that great things come from taking your time. Since 2002, singer Elizabeth Fischer, guitarist Ron Samworth and Tony Wilson, drummer Skye Brooks and bassist Pete Mitchell have developed a sound that is beautifully captured here. Akin to Diamanda Galas singing German cabaret music as played by King Crimson, or something like that, the music is thoroughly engaging. Over it all, Fisher's sinuous voice delivers her often dark and edgy lyrics about "love songs for the dead" and smiling angels inside picture frames. A." =========== hahahahaha... i love the description of the sound... even though i ain't quite diamanda... and ya know, with all the arguing we do in this band... and me being as weird and intense (hungarian!) as i am... this is a bit of a miracle. anyways, the cd is available through the drip audio website: http://www.dripaudio.com also, if you're so inclinced, you can hear sample tracks here: http://www.myspace.com/darkblueworldca there is some other good stuff on drip audio too... the inhabitants, for example. we're gonna have the official cd release gig on july 13th, at the media club. of course, some of you are too far away to attend. but what the hell... you're all my pals, otherwise i would not be sending you this. - -elizabeth fischer - ----- End forwarded message ----- - -- dl+ecto@usrbin.ca: protecting my real address since 2002 (too late!) > EWS starts here! < ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 07:23:17 +1000 From: andrew fries Subject: Re: If you had to choose - which Sia JC Kammerzell wrote: > For those of you who own both of these, if you were to buy a copy of Sia's > "Breathe Me", which album would you buy: > > "Colour the Small One" by Sia > > or > > "Six Feet Under, Everthing Ends" - soundtrack I was in the same boat, finding out about Sia's existence through her contribution to SFU (yes, wasn't that finale amazing!? It is haunting indeed). Anyhow, I went with "Colour the small one", and while overall it does not have the same impact, it is an enjoyable record in its own right. Frankly, I thought "Breathe Me" on its own doesn't have quite the same impact, either. But then again, how could it? I didn't know about the soundrack CD, but as I never even noticed any other music they might've used in the series, the choice would be clear: her record! ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #169 ***************************
