Because 'Jane Siberry' was becoming just too much of a household name. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2006 16:46:57 -0700 (PDT) From: "Xenu's Sister" Subject: Wow! I need to cull through the list even more, because I didn't get a chance to watch everything, and I'm sure I missed some. I started a list. Here are some that made me go "oooh!" There are others but if I waited until I'm "finished" it'd be next week until I could post. A lot of these I have from taping MTV often in the mid-80's, but even then, I haven't seen them in ages. A few of these gave me ideas for upcoming shows. The notes, as such, are just things I jotted down while I was looking at the list. I haven't even watched all of these yet. If someone knows of something I should be watching for my show, let me know. There are a lot of people on that main list I've never heard of. Yes, there's a lot of crap, but it's amazing how many interesting things there are too. After watching so many cheezy videos and hearing cheap-sounding synths (even on songs I really like), Kate's "Running Up That Hill" is so a breath of fresh air. It barely sounds dated and doesn't really look dated at all. ABBA - Super Trouper (I already have this on video) Alannah Myles - Black Velvet (have on video) Alison Moyet - Is This Love? (I've never seen this) Alla Pugacheva - Lousy Party (never seen, silly) Altered Images - I Could Be Happy (never seen) Anne Clarke - Our Darkness (never seen) Bad Brains - I Against I (have on video) Betty Troupe - El Vinilo (never seen) Billy Bragg - Greetings To The New Brunette (never seen) Black - Wonderful Life (never seen) Brian Eno & David Byrne - Mea Culpa (!! terrible, but never seen) Caberet Voltaire - Sensoria (never seen) Captain Sensible - Wot (never seen this version, live/lip synch) Cocteau Twins - Carolyn's Fingers (have on video) Concrete Blonde - Joey (never seen) Cowboy Junkies - Sweet Jane (have on video) Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over (never seen) Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time (have on video) Darling Buds - It's All Up To You (never seen) Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin - It's My Party (!!!! wretched quality, cuts off) Danielle Dax - Cathouse (have, but this is good quality) Dead Can Dance - The Host Of Seraphim (never seen, video not there) Diamanda Galas - Double Barrel Prayer (!! have on video) Dolly Parton - Jolene (live version...fun!) I tend to agree with Craig (owch! :), but intelligently I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the licensing issues that she'd mentioned previously on her web site, as being the reason why she had to stop offering honor-system downloads of all of her Reprise material. I know NOTHING about the legalities of these things, but it occurs to me that perhaps by changing her name there's a way she can get around all that. Or maybe she's just tossing it all onto the pile of the past and starting fresh. She did get rid of pretty much everything she owned earlier this year, after all. (And am I hallucinating, or was Siberry not the name on her birth certificate anyway?) Either way, as long as she keeps getting her amazing music out into the world, she can call herself Raymond Luxury Yacht (pronounced "Throatwarbler Mangrove") for all I care. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2006 21:18:27 -0500 From: Timothy Jones-Yelvington Subject: Re: Jane Siberry -> Issa ??
