There's the Beatles' "A Day in the Life." My 2", Marcel *A Day in the Life *I read the news today oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the lights had changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure If he was from the House of Lords. I saw a film today oh boy The English Army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away But I just had to look Having read the book. I'd love to turn you on Woke up, got out of bed, Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup, And looking up I noticed I was late. Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, And somebody spoke and I went into a dream I heard the news today oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Not they know how many holes it takes To fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2006 13:47:17 -0400 From: breinheimer@webtv.net (bill) Subject: Re: oh, humpe, incongruous, boppy, creepy songs Perhaps this could be expanded some. Tom Newman's wonderful little ditty "sad sing" combines a pleasant uptempo melody not with creepiness but with heartbreak. to wit: "the rhyme of life is not so very clever now for the love of living here is habit formed now and the saying of goodbye is such a bad thing that the writing of the song is for a sad sing" How about the reverse? It's not a great example but the Bonzo Dog Band did a song called Slush in which a very simple yet haunting melody serves as the back drop for a single laugh played over and over. Someone must know some better examples. np: Bettie Serveert- Palomine another fine cd bought sound unheard solely on the basis of ectophilian word of mou...er keyboard. She is, ironically, a lithe, glamourous, raven-haired female. Each of her live performances are a memorable experience. Wherever she plays she makes new fans of her audiences. I have just completed her second CD with me. David Bowie sang a duet with her on the first one entitled Breasticles. On her new CD Brian Molko duets with Kristeen. Could there be any better endorsements of her talent and writing? -Tony Visconti ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V12 #165 ***************************
