I joined in 1993 and have been here ever since, except for brief periods of unsubbing while I've been traveling & unable to check my email regularly. How great that so many old-timers are still around, AND we're still getting new members -- that's the mark of a vibrant community. Happy birthday ecto, and cheers to everyone on the list, whether you've been here for 15 years or 15 days! :) - --Sue T. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jun 2006 10:38:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Mendelson Subject: fifteen! My fondest recollections were on the occasions that I (tried) to visit/meet up with fellow ectorebels. That would be: - - numerous kate and ecto gatherings in chicago at vickie and chris's place - - attempting to meet up with meth and woj in NYC on a long weekend (labor day maybe) and ending up hiking from lower to upper manhattan wearing my ecto shirt and looking for some restaurant that didn't exist - - finally meeting up with meth and woj (and valerie!) the next time I was in NYC - - travelling to pacific northwest (circa 1996) and staying with / meeting ectophiles in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, and points south (you know who you are!) - - attending ectofest in CT for my birthday Sept. 4, 2000, with my wife of 6 months Well, 5 moves and 4 kids (!) later, I remain, - -yourfriendlyneighborhoodpalindromemanmjm Tired of spam? Happy anniversary! I think I entered in late '95. I think. I was visiting family in Philadelphia and I went to an October Project concern whilst there. A former Ecto-list member (I can't remember his name, alas) there told me about this list and I joined after returning home. I'm sorry I've not written about Sarah and Vienna together in London. I meant to, I swear. Briefly, Vienna was everything I thought she would be live. She was solo, with a keyboard, and she was excellent. Alas, she didn't have much time on stage. The first act, the local one, Claire Nicholson, went over her time, I believe. She was okay, but nothing to write home about. I would have preferred more time with Vienna, who only performed six songs, one of which was new. Sarah was good. She had two members of her band with her, Jason and Joey, and she performed material from all three albums. I rather liked her set, and she played for a decent length of time. Vienna came on towards the end and played keyboards for Sarah -- at the same time Sarah went upstage to play the drum set that had been languishing there alone all evening. (Claire Nicholson's partner had about 20 pieces of percussion with him, but he didn't touch the drum set. Alas, sometimes it sounded as if Claire and the percussion were not at all together.) And Vienna sang backing vocals, along Jason and Joey, on the final song -- "How Deep in the Valley" -- a non-microphoned piece with Sarah on acoustic guitar and vocals. I must mention something about how gracious Vienna is. Those of you who know the Borderline will remember that there's a table in the back where CDs are sold. Well, Vienna was there after the show hawking her second CD (they didn't have Waking Hour there) and signing them. Most of the people gathered by the table, however, were waiting for Sarah and kept asking if she'd be coming out to sign. Vienna, rather than becoming impatient with them (as I might have done :) said she wasn't sure and offered to go backstage to check. She returned in a couple of minutes and pleased Sarah's fans with an affirmative response. Honestly, I really felt that Vienna was gracious and polite! Good show, but whilst I appreciate how the Borderline gives local talent a stage, but I really wish they'd stick to the timetable. :) Ellen "Literature stops in 1100. Can someone post the original membership list? It'd be fun to see who was on it. I think I came in around the 2nd or 3rd year. From 2006, that looks like right at the beginning, but back then, it seemed like a fully formed community that I stumbled upon. I've made both musical and personal friendships that have lasted and grown all of that time. Amusingly enough, I run a house concert series with ectophile Jeff Hanson, who I met in San Diego through ecto within a few weeks of joining. (And now we both live in Albquerque!) My web site is hosted by Doug Mayo-Wells, who I met through ecto and later in person over 10 years ago in the DC area. The site is designed by Sue Trowbridge, who I met in a similar way - first on ecto and later in person when I moved back to Baltimore. There are dozens of folks who've been friends over the years from the ecto family. So Happy Birthday Ecto.
