I'm delurking because I have a bunch of lala.com membership invites (10 total) that I can give out. If you don't know what lala is - it's a website that facilitates CD trading of commercial pressed CD's, NOT home made burned ones. Of course they don't have a way of stopping you from burning a copy for yourself or ripping it to you iPod/computer, and then sending off the real CD to people - but they encourage you not to. Anyway the way it works is that for every cd you trade out, you get "karma points" allowing you to get CD's trade back from other people. There's a transaction fee of $1 plus the $0.49 shipping fee for all received trades. Any outgoing trades are free - and they supply envelopes and CD cases for the outgoing trades. The website is still in beta (it goes live July 4th) and there are still some bugs (like the ability to request CD artwork and such - right now you are only required to send the CD). Mevertheless is seems pretty decent, and as I am way too lazy to actually go and try and sell of some of the CD's I have floating around the house that I never listen to, this is way easier way for my unwanted CDs to find a happy home. Plus I like the idea that there are people out there that I can actually email and communicate with listening to the music that I sent them. Oh and the other nice thing is that they plan on creating a database where artists can register. Once registered the artist will receive 20% of the $1 trading fee for each trade of their CD. Not a huge amount of money, but more than the zero amount they might receive if I were to sell the CD to a store or someone directly. Anyway email me privately about invites. I will definitely keep dogpile in mind for future search needs. Now that I know what it is; this marks the second song that I've really liked off of juror #13- so that's a good sign. Lara plays in my neck of the woods too. Better and better. Also it was good to see Suzanne's reference to sunday all over the world. I like that album a lot better than most of the limited amount of post 70's king crimson that I've heard. Definitely on the things I'd like to get more of list. np: Arto Lindsay- Invoke ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Jun 2006 14:13:21 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: jr link from Kevin Hi, Suzanne DeCory wrote: > I also checked out her other songs and to me, she sounds incredibly like > Robert Fripps' wife, Toyah Willcox at times, whom I absolutely > LOVE!!!!!! I'm sure most people here aren't familiar with Toyah at all, I am!! I actually got to see her perform once, which was my introduction to her. She was opening for Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists at a small theater in Munich in the fall of 1990, when I was over there studying. A friend of mine was really into Fripp and dragged me to the show, and to this day I am indebted to her for it. Not only did the Crafty Guitarists absolutely blow my puny little mind, but Toyah was *awesome*. - -- =============================================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth =============================================== hear at the HOMe House Concert Series http://hom.smoe.org =============================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2006 14:25:55 -0500 From: "Collected Sounds" <2345@collectedsounds.com> Subject: Need some help This was probably a year ago now, but I once got a link for someone working with a particular artist and they wanted me to download some videos and review them. They gave me a link. It was to a folder that had a bunch of things in it (one was a Dresden Dolls vid!) but nothing that was for the artist I was supposed to be reviewing. However, there was one video that was in my "bundle", or what have you, that I liked but it was not labeled very well. It was simply called cool-girl-broadband. I played it, liked it quite a lot, but I have NO IDEA WHO IT IS!! The person who sent me the link didn't know either, as it ended up being the wrong thing. I'm hoping someone here can help me. I tried to make out a line of lyrics and type it into Google and Dogpile, but got bupkis. I've uploaded the vid on my page for you to watch. I'm only going to leave it there for a short time as I don't want anyone getting mad at me. It's in wmv format because that's the format it was sent to me in. I am not sure how I'd go about making it something else. Here's the link http://www.collectedsounds.com/cool-girl-broadband.WMV Please let me know if you know who it is. She woman looks a little like Terami Hirsch, but I know it's not her. Thanks to anyone who might know. ~Amy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2006 16:45:08 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Another" what might this song be" query I have a message from an Ectophiles' Guide reader who is trying to locate a song he heard in 1978. He describes it as "kinda upbeat...kinda Sandy Dennyish but with a male accompaniment, with a repetitive chorus" that he thinks went "London is a great big town." Does anyone have any ideas what/who this might be? Thanks! - --Neile (Tried to simply forward his message a couple of times but it seems to have disappeared into the ether each time.
