"Mornixuur" on _Shimmering_ is one of the most stunning things I've ever heard, but I'm still going to have to go with the quadruple-punch of "Intravenous," "A Shoulder To the Wheel," "The Suffering," and "Dewy Fields" on BoP if I had to pick just one album. Bleed For Love is very Kate like! I really enjoyed it! I'm about to have a second listen :) I also checked out her other songs and to me, she sounds incredibly like Robert Fripps' wife, Toyah Willcox at times, whom I absolutely LOVE!!!!!! I'm sure most people here aren't familiar with Toyah at all, but if anyone ever gets the chance, check out "Sunday All Over the World, Kneeling at the Shrine" album. It's just so so awsome IMHO, and of course Fripp is all over it as well as Trey Gunn on stick (LOVE LOVE LOVE Trey!!!) She just reminds me so much of Toyah; it's incredibly cool and refreshing and so odd all at the same time :)) Hers's a link about SAOTW for anyone interested from E.T. (Elephant Talk) http://www.elephant-talk.com/rfmusic/saotw.htm Love the red hair.. I hope to hear more of her :) Suz (email filtered and set to exclusive contacts) To get the full value of a joy, you must have somebody to divide it with (Mark Twain). May your February and the year ahead be filled with long division ;) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2006 19:11:26 -0400 From: breinheimer@webtv.net (bill) Subject: tracking down a song I'm hoping someone here can do what google could not. (Full web site for under $10.00! Honest to god...not spam) Yes, it's Vickie here, it's not spam. I usually don't whore out for companies, but this is too good to keep to myself. DreamHost is having a 7th anniversary sale, and you can get a web site, free setup and free domain name for $9.24 for a YEAR, if you put in a special Promo code. It comes with 20gb of space, 1tb(!) of bandwidth and, geez, 675 email accounts. You can also host unlimited domains. Lordy. http://www.dreamhost.com I know it sounds insane but it's actually true. Chris found it on one of his underground message boards. The sale isn't mentioned anywhere on DreamHost's web site. I didn't think it was legit so I signed up. I need another account like I need a hole in the head, but I thought...ok, if it's true I can spend $10.00 to find out and put a bunch of mp3s or soemthng there. If it's not true, I can cancel out before the final transaction deducts from my debit card. So I signed up for the "Crazy Domain Insane" option, chose a domain, put in the PROMO CODE 777 and hit Submit. The next page told me that I was getting their anniversary sale price of $9.24! I just checked my credit card and sure enough, I was debited $9.24. I mean, damn! I used to pay almost $500.00 a year for 3 accounts at teemingmillions. Now I have 3 accounts with 3 different providers...wait, now I have 4 different accounts. The host I'm using for suspended-in-gaffa.com comes up for renewal in August. They're $90.00 a year (for 5gb of space and 10gb a day bandwidth...I got it when I wasn't sure if SIG was going to be popular, snort), which is incredible considering what I used to pay ($189.00 a year for 500mb of space!), but now I'll probably move over to this new account. I hate to do that to PowWeb, they're really nice, but I can't let this go to waste. Does anyone need a web site with lots of space and no banner ads? I don't know how long this deal will last. Don't put me in a referral (see, this post isn't mercenary), because that will negate the Promo Code. Just choose "Crazy Domain Insane," tick the full year option, sign up, and put in the Promo Code 777. The next page will show you the price you'll be paying BEFORE you put in your credit card information, so if something goes wrong and you don't see the sale price, just click off the page and you'll be out nothing. I'm still shaking my head in wonder. Vickie - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Music, all I hear is music, guaranteed to please... I do I have! I got it as a promo when it first came out. As a matter of fact, talk about coincidences: http://www.suspended-in-gaffa.com/SIG_05/index.html I also play "Ghosts In The Universe" in an upcoming show (I have 4 finished except for those darn web pages, and a 5th almost finished, and a 6th in the planning stages). I haven't heard enough JR yet to comment on her, but yeah, Toyah's very cool. Vickie - -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Music, all I hear is music, guaranteed to please... However, I like pretty much everything that Bel Canto has released. Their more recent stuff has gotten pretty dance/pop sounding. But it still has that unique Bel Canto sound thanks to Anneli Drecker's amazing voice. Looking in iTunes, I see that my most played Bel Canto song is actually Images from the newer Rush CD. This might just be because the number played only goes back a few years to when iTunes first came out. I've been listening to Bel Canto for a lot of years. My favorite single Bel Canto song is probably Dreaming Girl from White Out Conditions. Again, I don't think you can really go wrong with anything from them. But I would recommend figuring out what songs you have enjoyed hearing so far and try to track down the albums they are from. That is the most likely way to end up with a sound similar to what you have liked so far as they have evolved their sound, for better or worse, over the years. - -Rodney ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2006 17:41:03 +1200 From: "Karen Hester" Subject: Re: Bel Canto 1. Depends on the songs that you liked as samples! They may be recent ones (I can't get into the page to see). Earliest Bel Canto has notably dated electronic sounds (somewhat reminds me of early Depeche Mode); I reckon Shimmering is their most solid album, with pop highs and atmospheric pieces between. 2. There is a best-of, but that may be hard to find. There's a friendly online Norwegian store, but I've forgotten their name. Maybe there are several (friendly Norwegians; online stores). Euros hurt, however. 3. Fight time: I love Rush and Dorothy's Victory; I'd say about 1/2 the songs on each are similar/identical to Shimmering Warm and Bright era Bel Canto, and the other half are often excellent pop, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. I love cups of tea. 4. Why does Myspace's search suck so badly? Type in Bel Canto in music, get heaps of stuff; type in Anneli Drecker, get Vicki's page ahead of the lady herself. And soooo slow. karen > Date: Mon, 29 May 2006 22:39:51 -0400 > From: "Steve" > Subject: Bel Canto > > Can anyone reccomend one of Bel Canto's recordings in particular.
